fenix L0D is 10440 safe at 4.2v?

hey fellow light nuts..i just got a new l0d q4 and read alot of threads on using 10440's...most say they should hadle the 3.7v of the 10440..however my tenergy 10440's charge to 4.2v in the nano charger...this is alot higher than 3.7 in a light that is already over its rating...can you explain the 4.2 vs 3.7 and can i try these in the new l0d
 
so i should go for the 10440 in the new fenix?....trust me i know its at my own risk!!!!
 
Yes! Go for it as long as you're willing to accept a bit of risk. My L0D Q4 likes 10440s, as do most I've heard of. If you want a risk-free solution that's reportedly almost as bright, get a Microstream Stylus Pro (runs 2 alkaline or NiMH AAAs, i.e. 3v, which is within the Fenix's safe zone) and put the L0D's head on it. There's a thread about this below this one within the LED subforum.
 
thanks gunga..i had already read that but wasnt sure about the 3.7 vs 4.2 issue..i think i will take the plunge and try it
 
wouldnt that make it twice as long and defeat a big reason this light is so cool..how small it is?
 
true...but its still twice as long..cant keep it on a keychain...love the forward clicky though...so many decisions....

I think there's a single AAA Streamlight Microstream as well, of which people have also transplanted L0D heads onto.
 
I let the 10440 rest a bit after taking it off the charger. Also that 4.2v quickly drops when actually using it in the L0D. I don't think it stays at 4.2v long enough to do any damage. All our 10440's charge to 4.2v and we have no problems. The only thing I wish for when using the 10440 in the L0D is some kind of overdischarge protection to keep from ruining the 10440 cell.
