Fenix LD01 Mod

Hi,
I just recently joined CPF and got myself a Fenix LD01. My first LED light... I love this little thing. I am lighting things up that I don't even need to light up, just because I can now. I was reading around and some people say that putting a chapstick cap on it makes it a nice little pocket lantern... cool. It does too btw. I kept reading other posts and ended up reading a post about an led lenser and got an idea.
Check out the pics. It's my first mod so any suggestions, advice, criticism would be appreciated.

You can try to scavenge lenses from broken cheap cameras, at least that's what I've used. Small Russian cameras are easily found at flea markets here in S-E Europe (e.g. LOMO Smena-8) and all have blue coated glass lenses encased in brass rings. They should fit LD01, as I've tried them. You can see the example here. Tubular part (lens holder) is easily obtained from chapstick cap, or any other small plastic cap that fits.

I live in the US and I don't think I would be able to find the camera at flea markets. I found some for sale on eBay but it is not cost efficient, not to mention the long waiting time.

As for the lens holder, I already have a holder that fits my LD01 perfectly, the problem is in what lens I should use.

Do you or any other have any other recommendation as far as the lens go to do this mod?

If you get the "natural" type of ChapStick with the beige cap, you can get pseudo "warm LED" look :)

Love the chapstick cap diffuser! I carry an LD01 as my EDC...and also always have chapstick with me too. Never would've thought to put the two together. Great idea!

+1 on the leatherman squirt ps4 as well. You've got all my EDC's!

Nice mod, I've been thinking about something like this for a while now. Now I have a reason to check yard sales this spring (although I doubt I'll find any Russian camaras, but who knows...)

Thats cool! Question. How well does it throw now? Almost looks like it should throw like a champ! I always have a white chapstick cap that fits like a glove on my SS LD01. Now I'm gonna have to start hunting for some small lenses to try that mod if it really increases the throw. Thanks for sharing! Very innovative!
