Fenix P1D CE and L1D CE review

Yes, very interesting. Also interesting that people outside the flashlight community are actually interested. (Did I just say "interest* 3 times? Oops, make that 4.)

But that guy is much more cruel than us while testing them :D
there's obviously enough quality inherent in Fenix's to merit the purchase.

Not exactly accurate in their facts, (or very observant):

In addition, to extend these battery times an alternate body is available to turn this from a 1 AA cell key-chain sized light into a 2 AA cell penlight. Because of the regulated current, this doesn't make it any brighter, but effectively doubles the battery life.

I think it's a real shame that they didn't document the brick wall test with a video. I hope the wall is OK. :duh2:

Well, *that* I didn't buy. Drop any light onto concrete, and/or toss it like he did, and the anodizing will chip, dent, etc. It doesn't matter if it's a SF, Arc, or my Larrylight - beat them hard enough and the anodizing will suffer.

I generally agree with the positives mentioned in the review.

However, (writing of the L1D) the article author states:

... One of the only problems I had was in long-term use. After only about 10-15 minutes of use in turbo mode, the light really warmed up to the point that it was uncomfortable to touch. This took longer with the 80 lumen setting, but wasn't a significant issue with the 40 and the 9 lumen settings....
I'm not having this problem with my L2D. I have frequently had the L2D on Turbo for 30+ minutes at a time (and on Turbo for 60 minutes a couple of times) with the head only becoming quite warm, never hot.

I know that the P1D has been reported as getting hot when in Turbo mode, but do L1D/L2D owners have problems with excessive heat? Is it possible that my light is not dissipating heat properly, that it is instead trapping heat in the head and perhaps shortening the life of the LED?

If they used an alkaline AA battery, that might have heated up. We CPF'ers are generally sophisticated to use those low-tech batteries.

As promised:

As you can see, it's a tiny nick, and nobody would notice unless I pointed it out and people looked closely. My son flung it some 6 feet into the air and it landed on a concrete sidewalk ...my "testing department" hard at work...

And here's the bezel of my green LED ArcAAA, which has been on my keychain for 2 years now:

My L1 has a small dent on the bezel (which I can't remember how it came about), but I didn't take a pic of that.

Larry should be ashamed of himself! That Larrylight is practically ruined! :nana: Awesome knurling on that light though!

Thanks for posting the pic... hey, that looks like a Draco! ;)

Yeah, I wonder where it came from.

Shameless highjack, but I thought after that crash landing, the finish would've suffered more. I can't say I was all that happy about the scratch, but it is tiny, and I use that light very often.
