Fenix PD32 Ultimate Edition vs Nitecore MH2C

I am trying to decide between the 'Fenix PD32 Ultimate Edition' and 'Nitecore MH2C'

Please provide your preference and reasons which will help support my decision.

Bright wise they are pretty close...the Fenix gives you a neutral white. The Night core is rechargeable...thats nice...easy to charge from a car while camping. Think the Nitecore might be longer...on account of the charging circuit. The Fenix looks better to me...but that`s an opinion. Buy both? Give one to dear o`l mom for Christmas and steal it on occasion? Sorry, no help.

My MH2C just arrived today. It's my first foray into LEDs so I have nothing to compare it to but it sure is bright. The ability to recharge it with the same plug that I use for my phone both at home and in my car was the big selling point for me as a newbie to lights and batteries.

How 'bout a picture to make up for my lack of words...

I've got a Foursevens QTLC coming later today and I can hardly wait! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I have this with me on vacation which is nice. I charged it in the car (USB adapter to car cig. lighter) and is small, perfect light for night time reading in the hotel without waking everyone else up.

The diffuser cap from Nitecore is too long. I have one from Fasttech coming that appears shorter, like the Fenix PD 32 UE diffuser cap, which is short and 'frosted', making it a perfect reading diffuser: soft light.

This is a nice light.

Do you find that your MH2C fails to memorise where it was last at (obviously head unwound from Turbo) - whereas if I last use my MH2A on 'Low' - that's where it begins when next turned on. The MH2C seems always to want to start in SOS mode!

I would have thought the low output would be too bright for reading. The Low in the MH1C has been estimated at 14 lumens so I assume in the MH2C could be even brighter!
IMO, it's fine for reading but not ideal if other people are sleeping in the same room - makes it too bright!

My wife uses the MH2C and loves it. It does not remember where it left off...sometimes!

Is the MH2C too long for EDC in front pocket? The Fenix PD32UE is on the border of being too long for front pocket carry.

I've been thinking of getting the MH2C for awhile but the built in charging port is keeping me from getting it. I don't have anything that uses a MicroUSB so I don't have any cables for it, and I have an Xtar SP2 charger already so the built in charger would be just a waste of length and weight.

If they made it shorter without the built in charger I would have bought it already. MT2C updated with the XM-L U2 800 lumen would be nice!

I love Nitecore's mode changing style so I may buy it anyway but the length concerned me.

They are close in length.

I want to update my post here about the diffuser. The cone shaped diffuser is too long for reading but the small cap from Nitecore is perfect. It works well for reading. I would not mind had Nitecore started it out with lower lumens because it is pretty bright at low. The new SRT series is coming along and with the SRT 5, I may see if my wife wants me to get one for her and sell the MH2C. As for now, though, she loves it. The Fenix PD 32 UE is a really nice light and it comes with a nice, short diffuser which gives off gentle light for reading, too.

It is a tough call between the two, though the ability to charge on the laptop or in the car is a deciding point for me. She keeps a charger in her purse so it is always available, and with the car cell phone charger, there is one always there too. It is a nice feature.

Good points. Is there any data on the built in charger? Is it close to a good CC/CV algorithm and how is the cutoff voltage, etc. I searched but came up with nothing.

If you have a voltmeter, is there any way you could charge it fully and then take a reading? If its +\- .05v to 4.2v I will definitely buy one and try it out.

I don't have any MicroUSB devices or cables but if it comes with one I should be ok since I have a bunch of 10W USB wall chargers for my iDevices.

I was surprised to find how often I ended up using the car charger. It is really convenient being able to plug a flashlight into the lap top or the car for charging.

I think both the Fenix PD 32 UE and the Nitecore MH2C are both well made, with nice diversity of use, and both take well to a soft white diffuser for nighttime reading. I think you can't go wrong with either.

How is the charging port? I'm reading some reviews where the weakest part of the light is the charging port. It supposedly breaks easily if you put too much pressure on it. Maybe from a fall from the seat or the accidental sideways torque of the connection? Does it look like its securely attacked to the body or is it just attached to the plastic board? If not attached to the metal body, Would it be possible to add a careful dab of superglue to creat a strong bond to the body instead of the plastic board?

I'm afraid of the charging port breaking.

It is fine. It is not weak and the only concern I can see is if the flashlight goes literally underwater. It has the same feel as a good cell phone. Not an issue.
