fenix red diffusor+ ld10=rear light?

I've tried various led torches as rear lights, from dimmest to brightest, neutral R2 with red lens, 110 lumen warm white with red lens, red P4, all with diffuser optics.

That fenix diffuser might work well, it could be mounted parallel to the seatpost. I haven't found any other way to mount torches to the seatpost without causing obstruction so I strap it to the underside of the saddle.

It would probably be better to do a diy rear light with multiple led or a large diameter lens/reflector for better visibility and also good mount, no battery in the way, maybe remote switch.

I bought some DX parts to make my own red LED-based tail light, but I'm probably just going to stick with my Planet Bike SuperFlash 1/2 watt LED lights.

They're cheap and work great for what they're designed to do.

For the money spent on an LD10 and the red diffusor or red lens (what, like $60-65), I'd get three or four Super Flashes. Put one on the back of the helmet, one on the saddle bag, one or two on the seat stays.

I agree with this, the PB superflash is very bright and a lot cheaper than an LD10 or similar light with a diffuser. Use the money you saved to buy LSD batteries and you are good to go!

If you already have an LD10 that may be a different matter and I personally have no experience with red filters from Fenix but if you plan to use it then you are probably best to use a diffuser material beneath it to spread the beam. The long diffuser tip that Fenix sells really isn't something you want to be seen walking around with

but it probably works OK - I have used the white diffuser as a front visibility light.

Planet flash looks good.

Having used it more, I'm happy with my $9.90 dealextreme Ultrafire WF-501B Philips Luxeon K2 Red LED Flashlight strapped securely to the saddle rails (sku.12000) fitted with a diffuser optic. (kaidomain 'red p4' is just as good) This means I don't have to think about aiming the light. For back up and extra side visibility I have a good quality standard 2AAA blinkie which I use on 'up and down scroll' mode (on the box they call this strobe mode).

While it gets attention, I'm not convinced that blinking is best.
