A few weeks ago as some of you may know I purchased a Ferei 340 single cell. Being quite impressed with the light I have now bought the Ferei M8 to add to my collection of
Surefire 6PL
Novatac 120m
Solarforce L2
Ledwave Duo
Ferei mini 340
Ferei M8
the below is just a quick review and comparrisons.
As with the 340 the M8 arrived from kmnw.co.uk in good time and good order. Included in the package were the quality certificate dated Dec 09, translated user guide, wrist strap and 2 x panasonic CR123 batteries.
Again I'm well impressed, I managed to get out last night and do some longer distance shots for comparrison. The photos arent really the best nor do full justice to any light but they give me an idea of the beam shapes and focus. With hindsight I should have took my Novatac also but i decided not to so the test was done with the Surefire 6PL, Solarforce L2 R2 single, M8 MC-E and Mini 340 Q5. Should be noted the 340 is a single cell where as all the rest are double cells. New panasonic CR123 batteries were used in all the lights.
The surefire was a little bit of a disapointment. I had hoped this would have been a good benchmark for the L2 and M8 but there was very little difference to the 340. I'm putting this down to age (18 months old) and intend on giving it a good clean and down and lube which will hopefully improve its functionality and performance. I hate to think that a light which cost me £85 is only as good as one which cost me £22 :-(
Again the 340 impressed for a single cell battery. The overall size of it is nothing but yet its certainly comparable to the 6PL above
The M8 really outshined the 6PL and as to be expected the 340. The beam provided good distance out to 100 yards and beyond although the camera doesnt trully refelect this for any of the lights. If you check out the reflective 5MPH sign you can also appriciate the beam width when compared to the L2 below
The L2 and the M8 seem to almost compliment each other. No doubt the L2 R2 has the distance but the M8 MC-E has the width. Not sure if this is by design as the M8 seems to be being sold by kmnw.co.uk more as a weapon light. Does a weapon light need a wider more blinding beam ?! I guess if your inside and working your way through buildings then this could make sense. Could the difference be down to the reflector?! well there is a slight difference in size but alos the L2 has a extended bezel on it!
Either way I like it. The M8 is well made, fits nicely in my hand and adds another dimension to my collection. Well worth the £40.00. If you want to see more pictures just follow this link
Hope you like my quick comparrason
