I was just browsing the forum when the power went out. My 3 sons were shouting and screaming (mostly in excitement) as we were plunged into total darkness. Moments later I was handing them a light each, all with fresh batteries. We saw the neighbour walk outside with a gas cigarette lighter.

My biggest dilemma was which lights to pick up. Hopefully the kids will never mock my flashlight hoard again. It only lasted 5 - 10 minutes, but it was great! :twothumbs

lol lucky you! havnt had a power outage in a while.....

Ahh, I feel for you. :mecry:lol. I've loved power cuts since I was a kid, but cool lights make it so much better. I realised I need a little more planning though, regarding which to give the kids. I'll be keeping a few economical ones handy for them. One of them has an E01 but it was lost down the side of his bed. The others had mini Mags but seem to have lost them altogether.

The power doesn't go out much where I live. But I was lucky enough to have it go out a few weeks ago when I was at a shooting range. I had my EDCs, a rexlight and a microstream, plus I had a VB-16 and a SF 6p with an R2 dropin. The gun shop was ill prepared. They had 1 emergency light in each shooting bay, and none in the store area. They only had battery backup for the computers and security cameras, not the registers. The only lights they turned on were the lights in the streamlight display, and they were all cabled down. There were at least 4 employees, and about 8 other customers, and none of them had a light. Two of them were locking the front door by lighter. When they rang us out, they had to hand write the receipts by cell phone light.

Wow, that's pathetic. You'd think that at least some of them would be the prepared types.

About 3 weeks ago our power went out...............for 9 days!

It would have been great except I was out of town for the entire time.

Fortunately my wife was home alone with our four young children so she could enjoy it. :D

Of course the power came back on the day I arrived home.

Hope everything was fine and nobody was hurt or upset. Blackouts up to about 60 minutes are ok. Anything beyond that, :shakehead :shakehead :shakehead :shakehead :shakehead none for me.

you call 9 days great?! that is disastrous to me. imagine just your wife and kids at home, the danger. :poke::whoopin: a few hours of blackout will more than suffice :D

Makes one wonder what if the city's power station is down.... this will definitely identify the members of CPF. :D

We had a blackout in my area back in July, I must have had a dozen calls on my cellphone from friends wanting me to come over with my lights.

Only a CPFer would relish a blackout!!! :D

I do too, gives me a chance to play with my toys; generator, lanterns, flashlights, guns...

Yes we were all fine thankyou. It brought home the importance of EDC though. Having a light in my pocket saved scrabbling around in the dark for my others. There are usually toys laying about everywhere, and at the moment kittens too, so handy, instant light may have saved at least minor accidents.

Haha.

Normal people: Power outtages, Ooh no!

Flashaholics: YAY! Another power outtage!:D

But I totally agree :P Like 4 months ago there was a power outtage here, for 2 hours, my friend dropped by to borrow a light, there was one downstairs tailstanding so my mom could cook (was around dinner time) and I carried one everywhere. It was pretty dark outside so it was pretty cool cuz I finally could play with my laser in total darkness :P

Last time the power went out here, I did a quick runtime calculation and came up with 5 days before I had to change batteries in any of the lights. At that point I decided I had a sickness :)

Not many power outages where I live. Fortunately my wife was out of town for the whole week last week which meant not one light was turned on the while she was away. Cooked and ate with my headlight, used all my lights and used my diffusers as well. It reminded me of my backpacking days.

You know you're a flashaholic when.... you look forward to the wife going away so you can play in the dark! :twothumbs

I used to be the same way.

Then we lost power for a week in September (hurricane Ike). That wasn't too bad, because the temps were in the 60s.

Then in February we lost power for another week. Single digits outside, everything covered with ice. 40 degrees in my kitchen.

Now, these times made for good memories, no doubt. But be careful what you wish for. :)
