I am attempting to convert my mity lite to led. It will have 3, N type batterys.I am compleatly new at this and need some suggestions. What would be the brightest white led I could use and what type of circuit would would you use with it.
Thanks in advance Lunitoid (Trent Taylor)

I don't have a "mity lite" - (I think it is small Pelican light with a flexible head??) to tell you exactly how to "mount" the LED, but with 3 n cells you don't need any circuits.

Run a 5mm white Nichia (if you can get one of the newer 8000mcd units, good, but you may have to settle for a 6,400 mcd), that would be the brightest way to go without going to a luxeon, which would be a real hassle.

I know what a Mity Lite is, as I've been given one to modify to Orange LED operation. The only problem is that the bulb is actually sealed in a plastic assembly containing the reflector. This assembly would have to be disassembled and modified to take a HB-LED and appropriate dropping resistor. At first I thought that I could replace the bulb assembly with a PR LED as it has similar external dimensions to a PR. However, the simple screw-on-switching mechanism formed by the bulb means that the cap body must be insulative.
So, I must try to modify this...
If there's anyone out there who's managed to get a Mitylite working on LED let us know how its done!

Thanks, Last night I honed out the battery holder. The 3 n batterys fit perfect. I think I can remove the bulb from the bulb holder and attach the led to the same contact points. This will let my use the same switching mechanism and keep it water proof.
