Went to the county courthouse yesterday for copies of legal papers, and put my keys and HDS EDC into the little tray before going through the metal detector. Lo and behold, the security gal picks up the flashlight, turns it on, and says flashlights are no longer permitted because of their potential use as a baton/weapon. WTF? I took it back to my car, returned, and entered. On the way out, I flashed the LOD-CE on my keychain at her. She just kind of frowned.

An HDS? Really? I'm guessing you could fit the entire light in the palm of your hand. A 6D Maglite, perhaps, but a teeny one cell HDS? Remind me never to go to court. :ohgeez:

Similar thing happened to me when I had jury duty last month. I had my Brinkman Maxfire and Jetbeam CLE. The young security guard saw the Maxfire in my bag on the xray. He asked if I had a flashlight in my bag. I showed him my two lights, after which he told me I could not take them into the courthouse.
A more senior guard was present. He concluded that because my lights were smaller than his AA maglite, were thus harmless. He let me through with my lights.

Thats a f**king joke.

My uncle was once told he couldnt take his little 1 led button cell key light through a security check at an air port as it could blind some one yet on the other side was a shop selling 5 led flashlights.

Some people are just over zelous.

Grow up!

Everyday the courts are over filled with people with little education, who are sometimes desperate, are violence prone, and are angry to begin with. If the security checkpoints are not manned with Sheriff's deputies they are under paid contractors who have to deal with the before mentioned people on a daily basis. They are doing a job. And to antagonize them by flashing them on the way out will not help the situation. Try looking at the situation from their perspective.

Cut them some slack.

Would you rather give up your flashlight or your right to a speedy trial?

Remember, justice delayed is justice denied.

So how long have you been working the courthouse checkpoints?

If this keeps up, we will not be able to keep poking fun at the European "Nanny States".

Bwahaha, since mascara is a type of "brush" it's concealed carry! Ministry of Love, here we come!
I can see it now: A lady rushes into a drugstore and breathlessly says to the clerk, "I'm late for a date! Could I get a small mascara bottle?" The clerk says, "I'm sorry, ma'am, we need to run a background check, and there's a 14-day waiting period. You'll also need a Mascara-Lok (TM) safe." Or perhaps, "We only have the 8-inch tubes with the extra handgrip. If you want a pre-ban one, you'll have to find a dealer outside of CA." The possibilities are endless! :D

:sigh: "Security" is only a new name for authority in the hands of idiots.

WELL SAID!

:sigh: I just hope they don't ban eyeglasses too...it could poke an eye out you know
I almost fell down a flight of stairs once without them but wasn't hurt thanks to the crowd standing on the spot where I would've fell on.

Don't worry, the floor would've broken your fall :grin2:
