So I had ordered a flashlight, ~$55, from one of those places in China, and they shipped it via YunExpress tracking. It got to Chicago IL, where it had this for a tracking info:

2025-09-24 05:34 In Transit to Next Facility

Yesterday I sent the company an email asking if they knew the USPS tracking number that was picking it up, and they said, "It seems that the courier lost it during the handover with USPS". They are sending another one. But I kind of question the "lost" part. I bet someone saw that it had an item with Lithium batteries, and "made it lost" so they could take it for themselves.

What are your opinions on what actually happened to it?

Likely stolen, but sometimes things do get lost. Thats why it's always nice that the responsibility is on the sender

I cant really comment on USPS but here in Kanukistan I find if when things go missing its during the hand over between customs and the final carrier. Of course Customs claims it was handed over and Canada post claims they never got it. Here it shows "Electronic shipping label created" When they do this Canada Post wont pay the insurance claim because there is no proof the package actually was in their hands.

Discovered the real issue. Found what the USPS tracking number was, and this is what it said:

"The package associated with this tracking number was found to bear counterfeit postage and is now considered Postal Service property under USPS regulations and will not be delivered. You are encouraged to contact the sender/merchant and/or your credit card company, as applicable, to seek a refund or other available recourse."

The website that shipped it to me replied with:

"We did pay the forwarder, maybe they used the cheapest delivery agent in your country, we are not sure whether the delivery agent forged the postage, but we have verified that USPS will not deliver the package. We have contacted the forwarder to use another delivery agent this time."

They have sent me another package and a new tracking number.

Interesting. A member over at WUS, has the same problem. In fact I just got through reading his thread. It's great to hear they're making it right.

Hmmm, very weird. Not sure how the people that pick up the light and transfer it to USPS wouldn't figure that USPS would catch a counterfeit postage! I hope it doesn't become a thing. I have this light coming, and just ordered from Hank at Emisar.

So I went to the WUS forum, suggested by AZPops, and oddly the person's issue was on the very same day as mine. And I don't know if the same people were used to transfer to USPS or not, but IF that wasn't the case, I'm wondering if there wasn't some sort of issue with the mechanism that tests for "counterfeit postage", and it threw erroneous data, and now a lot of people's purchases "belong to USPS now"? What happens to those products?? See, this is a HUGE issue, now that I think about it. A third party putting on counterfeit postage, IF it happened, results in loss for someone else. And what happens to all those products USPS seizes?? Do they just keep the items for themselves? And who is the "them"?? Or do they just sit forever on some shelf??

Look at this. The top is my USPS tracking number. Under it is what the other person posted. Look at the date and time. HOW??

My .02c :

The addressee is not responsible for the shipper using counterfeit postage. Therefore, the package should be delivered to the closest shipping hub and a Postage Due notice be sent to the addressee.

I called USPS, and after getting past all the bots, finally spoke to a real person on the phone about this. This is where the plot thickens. I gave them the USPS tracking code, and verified my address,............it didn't match!! She couldn't tell me the address on that was associated, but it wasn't my address. How??? This whole thing makes me think of some sort of scam, possibly the middle person between the seller and USPS? I don't know, but it is very weird.

I believe these packages sent from China via carriers like YunExpress are bundled for shipment and handed over to the “last mile” carrier for final delivery. My most recent orders on AliExpress went from “YunExpress” to “GOFO” for final delivery. The courier who shows up looks like a regular person driving a regular car crammed with packages (quite a common side job for many). I once had a package get delivered at 10 pm.

In this case, I think the bulk shipment was supposed to be processed by a third party who transfers the final address on to a USPS label and slaps it over the international label for final delivery. That third party messed up the process and the whole batch gets suspended/seized. This would result in a whole group of tracking numbers being invalidated at the exact same time.
