This forum makes for great reading and learning. I really enjoy the comparison reviews and the passion it brings out in everyone as they defend their favorite light. I was just reading one from last year that carried on until around May of this year, an "E2DL versus Malkoff M60" thread. It even got heated - discussions of what people really use their lights for, and why buy this one over the other, etc.
It occurred to me the comment that has been made to me a number of times - "Just buy both!"
I remember thinking, "Are you nuts? These things are expensive!" And now I find myself with 5 Surefires, 1 Eagletac, 1 Olight, 1 Novatac, 1 Fenix, 1 Wolf Eyes, a Malkoff M60F for my Surefire C2, a Nailbender SST-50 for my 6P,a Quark 123 on the way, and a hard-to-suppress urge for a custom Ra Clicky - 170 lumens with a few 'extra' features. Haven't ordered it yet, but I have a feeling that it'll be soon... I also have a few, what I now call, "Throw away" lights (Mag Lite, cheap Cree from Target, Victorinox, etc. that most folks would consider pretty darn good flashlights.
I take great pleasure each morning deciding what light(s) to take to light my way on the 4:45 AM dog walk. Want flood? The Malkoff is a champ (riding in a Surefire C2 host - serial number A00082) - Nailbender's gives huge flood with a bit more distance. Want to light up objects a football field away? M2XC4 is my chosen weapon. Want a combination of light weight and throw that is impressive? Out comes the LX2. Waiting on a smooth reflector for my Olight M20 - that ought to be fun! Of course, the little SF E1B is always with me - or the Novatac 120E - they both amaze me, and you simply MUST have a backup in case batteries wear down....
So while I hope the passion about choosing never ends (it is what started my education and my own passion for these great tools), I hope we don't lose sight of a simple fact - most all of these lights are great, and the REAL FUN IS IN RESEARCHING, DECIDING, RECEIVING AND USING each light for its own unique characteristic.
That said, if I had to get rid of all but 2, the Surefire LX2 and the Surefire E1B would stay with me forever.
Again, just miscellaneous ramblings from a self avowed Flashaholic
