Hello,

I'm reading here in CPF for a while, maybe three months, but now I made it to registration here

I am currently searching for a somewhat special flashlight.
The light should have a side clicky/switch (I just don't like those tailcap switches....)
It also should be powered by 1 or 2 (or more) AA or AAA batteries or Eneloops. (I don't have Lithium Batteries and I don't want to buy any)

I already own a Romisen RC-P3 and a Zebralight SC50.
I like these two lights very much, but the Romisen is not the most high-end flashlight and it has only got one mode (which is much too bright most of the time).
The Zebralight is a very very well made flashlight with a great UI which is a pleasure to operate. But sometimes I would like to have a bigger Flashlight with more brightness or runtime.

So, are there any well built flashlights with a side switch?

Thanks for the reply,
I already know some of the lights which are mentioned.

Most lights however have a tailcap-clicky (to turn the light on and off) AND a side-clicky (to change the modes).
This means that I have to operate the tailcap-switch everytime I use the light...
Also most of the lights are powerd by lithium 18650 or CR123.
Unfortunatelly I don't own batteries of these types.

But thanks for the suggestions. The iTP A6 Polestar looks promising.
Maybe I'll just try this one out

The Proton Pro is a nice little pocket light, but it won't be brighter than your Zebralight. What's nice is it's variable output, and red LED with variable output, too.

If you're interested in a Maglite in 1D format, see the custom mod section with machinist/builder wquiles. His thread has a lot of pictures and the following offerings:

Here is a cut and paste (I hope this isn't against some CPF rule). You will need to contact him for more info of course. He has been great with answering my questions.

His thread is as follows:

Since I get asked often how much do I charge for a turn-key 1xD with a P7 emiter, , here is how much I charge for my two most popular configurations, using a 3xAA adapter from mdocod, or using a single 18650 cell:

The detailed cost for a turn-key 1xD with a P7, using a 3xAA adapter are:
- 1xD Host cut/re-thread in any color ($60 domestic - this includes shipping)
- P7 LED $30
- P7 heatsink $20 (order these from Asia - about a 3 week wait)
- deep tailcap mod $25
- mdocod 3xAA adapter $25 (I order these from forum member Eric, aka mdocod)
- assembly, labor, misc supplies (epoxy, Al, Delrin, cables, etc.) $60
- cut/modify switch for flat cells and LED wiring - free

Total with shipping = $220 (domestic)
Total with shipping = $235 (international with tracking #)
