Flickering L2P with McClicky switch

L2P, panasonic 18650, 3 mode xml-u2 @ 4.2 amps and an S7 tail cap with preinstalled McClicky switch. On high mode, it has an intermittent flicker. When I put a stock S7 tail cap on, it does not flicker. Aren't these McClicky switches supposed to be really good?

It does sound like a connectivity issue. But it could be one tail cap is putting more pressure against the drop in setup (via the battery) than the other.

Best way to test the kit is to remove it from the tail cap, then hold/press it against the bottom of the loaded body. With the spring against the battery and the brass against the bottom lip of the body, does it still happen? How about the reverse: take the bezel off, load the battery and tighten the tail cap. Now press the drop in against the top of the body. Do you get a difference between the tail caps?

Excellent advice. Try it! I've installed many McClicky switches with zero problems. I've also purchased tailcaps with preinstalled McClicky switches. Zero problems. After trying Electron Guru's advice try tightening the McClicky with a pair of small long nose pliers or other tool. Also look at the front end carefully. Clean everything, lubricate lightly. Reassemble.

It does it with your first test. Couldn't quite figure if I was doing the other test right. I did notice the SK/McClicky tail cap does not go onto the body as far as the stock S7.

The stock S7 switch sits deeper in the tail cap. Tightened the McClicky switch and it soes not sit as deep.

I've had a McClicky fail in exactly this fashion. Yes, they're good, but not infallible.

does yours have the central riser insulated from the brass screw-in retaining ring?

The picture on the right here: http://www.oveready.com/images/uploads/2vlmgxz.jpg < from overready.com shows the unmodified mcclicky. The modification simply covers the sides of the spring where it might be wide enough to touch the brass retaining ring, which sits a little bit higher in the solarforce tailcap.

Mine does have a central riser. But it isn't a problem with staying on, it just has the intermittent flicker only on high. Oveready is sending a new one. Every test I've done is suggesting a bad switch. Hope that the new one fixes it. I'll repost when the new one gets here.
