I have never discussed this product with CNI, but my impression is that for the right price, they will attempt to make anything. In other words, they obviously have a DPSS method to produce a 556nm beam. As far as I know, it's never been built into the portable housing, but I'm pretty sure they would give it a try if you offered them enough money. Perhaps if they received numerous emails about this, they would make these available. I'm really curious what the technical details of this laser are. It probably involves a process more complicated and less efficient than a 532nm DPSS laser, thereby making very high power levels unattainable, especially within the limitations of a portable laser. I don't really know though. I wish I knew more.
One thing I think CNI is realizing is that there is a high demand for portable lasers. I think they're in the process of increasing their portable laser division. Hence the new blue and yellow models, and the more powerful green models. They have increased their DPSS manufacturing precision, and will now guarantee >160mW to anyone who asks (and pays). I'm guessing we're going to see them offer a >300mW handheld 532nm unit within a year or so. I'm sure other wavelengths will also be introduced, and the other colors they currently offer will get more powerful as well. CNI has the high-power portable DPSS laser market to themselves right now. They also seem to have a corner on the portable DPSS market in colors other than green. I don't think that will last long. I bet we see other manufacturers offering products like this. Well, I've strayed off topic, but there are my predictions for 2005-2007.
