Craig, noticed your post on another thread re: bluish cast for the white Nichia LED. This reminded me of something else I'm curious about-why does the white Lux. Star look so very much like the Cool White fluorescent in color?? -I've compared 'em side- by-side and they look just identical colorwise.
(I've seen the white Luxeon without the optics and it seems more bluish)

It's all in the phosphor.
If you look at both the LS and a fluorescent bulb in a spectroscope (this can be as simple as the surface of an audio CD) there should be some easily noticeable differences in their spectra.

My LS seems to be closer to warm white fluorescent bulbs.
Warm white fluorescent tubes are often sold as "bathroom" or "kitchen & bath" lamps, and the only example I have of one is burnt out. So I am not equipped to compare the spectra of the LS and the fluorescent at thist ime.

I suspect however, you'll see three or four very sharp, distinct bands of color in the spectrum of a warm white fluorescent, while the warm white LS has a mainly continuous spectrum with a peak in the blue, and running noticeably low in violet and blue-green.

Thanx Craig,-I was just looking at the color similarity between my Cool White fluorescents (both tube and RadioShk. pocket fluor. lights), and the color looks almost the SAME as my white Luxeon (with optics). I guess from your comment -the Luxeons can vary in color output too.
-As in: Nichia B1-S/B2S
