I had been looking for 17670 cells to use in my original Quark lights that have the 2x123a body (both on the Turbo-X and standard models).
Instead, I discovered (on CPF) that there's a popular 16650 size, which now has more capacity than the old 17670s did! (~2200 vs. 1600 mAh)
I ordered two 4-Sevens branded cells from Prometheus Lights (darksucks.com) since they still have some 4-7s stuff. I got them in today and checked them out.
Nice packing! Cardboard box with foam cutouts to fit the cells, and this box was inside a larger shipping box. A+
These cells are almost identical size to the AW brand 17670 shown here.
I test-fitted these cells in a few lights:
Streamlight PolyTac -- no fit (no surprise, even cr123a primaries barely have any clearance to slide in)
Surefire G2, 6P, C2 (all P60 lamp versions) -- fits easily; slides in, falls right out
Fenix TK30 (old MC-E model) -- fits easily, as expected since it was made for 18650 originally, but won't fit the bloated new cells
Quark 2x123 body and Turbo-X -- barely fits; the cells drag a little going in, takes some turning and pushing to find the right "clocking" sweet spot. To remove the cells, have to turn the light upside down and give it a few firm shakes. The old AW 17670 cells are the same way. Let's face it, 4-7s just made that 2x123 body tube too dang small.
They DO work, though, and should be a nice capacity increase vs the old AW cells.
So for now, I finally have new rechargeable cells to use in my Quark Turbo-X again, AND the old TK30 will no longer be a fancy paperweight!
I think I'll try some of the Orbtronic 16650s next. I've had a couple of their 18650 3500 mAh cells for a while and I've been happy with those for my Solarforce lights.
