Hi raggie33,
FWIW, I drove up I-75 from Dade County, past Weston/Arvida Parkway area, to I-595 then drove east to Flamingo Road then back south down to Dade Co. around 5 to 6:30 PM tonight before it got dark.
Noted about 50 trees that had been blown over (suspect soft wet ground could not hold the roots as a bunch had just recently been planted in the last several months) and about another 30 or so trees that had been broken on the main trunk (in the 6" to 8" trunk diameter range).
Minor wind blown debris of various types was evident all over. Found one open gas station on 595, with only a couple of smaller stores remaining open.
No downed powerlines were observed but there have been several power outages of varying sizes and durations in the Dade/Broward area.
Obviously Palm Beach and the northern counties are have more of a rough time.
The winds were pretty strong, moved the car around a bit while driving but not at all uncontrollably, more a matter of simply being aware that your were driving on wet roads in high winds and keeping an eye out for dangerous conditions at less than the posted speed limits.
In general from what we observed, it would appear that Cooper City is in decent shape, although having been there after some substantial rain storms flooding is an issue from time to time in the older sections that were built prior to code and zoning changes regarding housing elevations etc.
I'll keep you posted if I get back that way again.
8 PM NOAA update, still a Cat 2, and has moved slightly north of Palm Beach. Central pressure has come down a few points, which indicated possible increase in wind strength. The heavy stuff is either just offshore and/or has just crossed onshore at this point, depending upon which radio/TV/weatherguesser you listen to...
Neighbors across the street don't have power and are still on generator, this outage is currently localized to just one block at the moment.
