I'm new here... theres a lot of machining going on, theres lot of "existing" bodies upgrded...i hve only seen ONE (so far) from scratch build using off the shelf,,,,(IE lowes supplies, etc) flshlight using some sink drain pipe.not that doing it like this is the best looking, but... does this go on much?i am getting close to figuring out whnt i need/want... looks are not importnt to me for the trial run... just wanted to make sure there wasnt already a "3 dollar body" at LOWES waiting to be slapped together...

The first project I did was with supplies I got from Home Depot. I used some PVP fittings, a couple of pieces of brass made for various pipe fixtures etc. Mounted the LED on a piece of brass that fit nicely into a piece of PVP, put an optic on top, used a pipe that had roughly the right ID and length for 3 x D cell batteries, and used a piece of wire that I would press to the side for a momentary on/off. It was really ugly and really crude, but it worked well enough :D
Here are a couple pics of the light "engine"....beware, it is as heinous as I described above...

The top pic shows the underside where the + side of the battery made contact...the other pic shows the LED side. I wish I had a picture of the whole monstrosity assembled. I don't think the parts cost all that much - the LED was the most expensive part.
