Hey all ive got some questions about two surefires...

first off between the G2 or 6P which is the best flashlight, there is a $30AU difference in price but im after the one that takes the most extras, eg turbo heads etc.

Ive had a look on the surefire website and it seems that all the extras are compatible with both, is this true???

any comments of use on either of these would be great thanks

No. the G2 is not compatible with most of the stuff...6p is the most affordable modular light in the surefire line...that's how they get ya....

I like the polymer on the G2 though, very scratch resistent and all. But the 6p has a better lens for the p61(pyrex vs. Lexan)

Okay, what isn't the G2 compatible with then?

Z41s?

AFAIK, the G2 isn't designed to be water resistaint but the 6P is.

let's see, the newer A19's, the LOTC's, that constitutes a big part of what could be used to give it more power(longer batter capacity, and therefore some of the turbo heads).

size15: please correct me if I'm wrong. thanks

Isn't that an A19? (from Al's page on PK's website)

I've put a turbohead on a G2 and the NRA edition of the G2 (or is it the model that is the Nitrolon Combatlight?) either way the threads were the same. I've also switched the lockout tailcap from a nitrolon, onto my old 9P and it fit fine.

I'm kinda playing devil's advocate with you. Okay about the Z41 but the Clickies work. Some new A19's do function on G2's. I agree though that it's best to get an old version of the A19 if possible.

Apart from that, I believe the G2 and 6P are about the same in terms of interchangeability...

hey lovecraft - where in australia are you ?
i may be able to find you a better price on those lights here in aus
if i were you i would go with newer model 6- (with the pyrex lens) the plastic lenses get scuffed up really easy
however the nitrolon lights are really solid and dont feel cold in winter

Al, while I have your attention... :-) What part number is the G2Z tailcap and do you know if it fits the G2?

Thanks!

-john

The G2Z TailCaps I have do not fit on the G2's I have.
I hear rumours that SureFire may introduce a LOTC for the G2. In my opinion it is the only thing stopping me buying lots of them (and I'm sure I'm not alone in needing a disable for it).

I do not have the part number for the G2Z's LOTC to hand. Sorry.

The 6P with it's LockOut TailCap and Pyrex lens is highly water resistant and is capable of being tested and rated waterproof. Of course, o-ring care is vital. Two o-rings should be used to help maintain the seal on parts that may be rotated underwater (such as the TailCap).

Al

Thanks very much Al. I agree with you about the tailcap preventing me from purchasing lots of G2s. Too bad the G2Z doesn't fit either.

-john

the 6P is designed to be water-resistant, but the G2 isn't. if the 6P leaks, it would be due to QC or maintenance issues whereas on the G2 it would be inherent to its design (lack of a diaphragm seal on the tailcap).
