i have a surefire g2

i bought there rechargable kit awhile back but it is two big

i want to use the compact configuration but not lithium 123a's

is it safe to use rcr123a's and will that void my warranty

RCR123s will be higher in voltage. They will void your SF warranty. If you have the LED model... they might work. You will instaflash the stock incandescent bulb with those batteries. You can buy Lumens factory LEDs and incandescent bulbs that are made for the higher voltage of the rechargeables. Save your original parts in case you want to return to lithium batteries.

You can also get the SF P60L that is made to run on 3 x 3 volt CR123s=9 volts. The 2 x RCR123s=8.4 volts off charger and would be OK since it's under 9 volts. May CPFers will say that it's not good to use the P60L on a G2 Nitrolon head, but you'll be OK if it's used only in short bursts and not for an extended amount time.

Technically, both 3xCR123 or 2xRCR123 run at about 7.5v under moderate load. This is why we are able to run P90 incandescent lamps in a G3 on 2x17500 li-ion cells as well. :)

What about running a P90 (or even a P91) in a G2 with 2 IMR 16340's? is this possible? advisable?

P90 should be fine, but a P91 will deform the plastic lens on the G2 from heat (the G3 has a glass lens). Plus, the P91 will be overdriven and lamp life will be greatly shortened. The P90 operates at ~7.5v whereas the P91 is ~6.8v IIRC.
