Games to play with Seniors with facetime

I am trying to help keep my very senior Dad from feeling too lonely as a Florida snowbird.
I can Face Time him with his iphone, and am thinking about trying to play cards.

He does not have a computer and is challenged using his iPhone, so he can't download and install new apps.

Suggestions are welcome.

We successfully played cards for about an hour.
We both had fun, but for me it was particularly rewarding seeing him enjoy himself.
I used a pair of spaghetti boxes to hold his cards in a position that the iphone/ipad camera could see them.

It worked out really well.
We bet smiles and giggles. Maybe later we can use a fistful of pennies, or chip markers. Whatever it takes to keep it interesting.

My dad and I used to play darts by telephone. That was before face time and skype etc.
After a few rounds he'd say "welp, gotta pee talk to ya later".

Pretty much each night we play cards from 8:00 to 9:00 PM.

A while back, I sent him ...

He had to break the Gem stones out of their clay/plastic surroundings. NOW we play for Jewels!

The last hand that we play, determines who gets to wear the King's Crown.

He has one from a costume he had, and he cleverly made one for me out of the box with the pictures of the jewels. So depending upon who wins, he will put on the appropriate crown, and we'll bow to each other.

9:00 is time for ice cream.
Then TV, and bed.

I sent him a copy of this LARGE Print book, and each night we work together to solve one or two of the puzzles.

After the first couple of nights, I had to order a book for myself, so that I could do them with him, and help him out if he gets stuck.

I recommend it to anyone who has a senior parent, who's cognitive skills are failing.

I also downloaded and printed out some 2x2 and 2x3 Soduku puzzles, and printed two copies of each. I sent him a set, and kept one for reference to guide him through. Now that he has gotten the hang of it we have done a couple of very easy standard 3x3 ones.

Poppy, wow, that's pretty interesting "game" you've found. We have no such things in Canada, at least I didn't see nothing like that. When I have a little bit of time, I prefer to spend it on something minor, like indie games. And fortunately, I know a lot of video game cases from iLogos, from an agency which specializes on game development, and can show a lot of great games, where you can show up your analytical skills or speed of reaction, etc.

Sudoku puzzles can be found online, and often at the check out counters at super markets.
That book in particular I bought through Amazon. It has a nice variety, and is not overly challenging, so that it is not too humbling, but rather it's rewarding to get the answers correct.

Oh, that's great! If I were an app developer, I'd definitely tried to make something more suitable for you. I'm not a developer, but it doesn't mean that I'm not pleased about my current job. I'm glad I found it, and I managed to do it here. I think that everyone can find some decent vacancies if they just try.
