In the 7-8 months since I became a full-blown flashaholic, I have swamped myself with numerous flashlights and various batteries. In addition are all the accessories for various flashlights, like spare heads, bezels, filters, lenses, tailswitches, lanyards, sheaths, extenders, and spare lamps.

Organization? I've had no organization.

I decided to tackle it and divert some funds from the purchase of more flashlights into purchasing things to help me organize.

I've started bying Pelican Micro-Cases for the flashlights themselves and spare heads/bezels from CPF Supporter retailers (Like The Battery Station). Also I bought several battery cases from

Inanycase.com

Not every one of my flashlights will get its own Pelican case and not every battery will go into one of these nifty battery cases. But, it has already helped me organize and set my mind at ease about caring for my nicest (read: pricey) flashlights.

When I packed up flashlights and spare batteries for a hunting trip last week, I had to put the batteries in some Tupperware which was very uncool and noisy. Now I can just slip a couple of Pelican Micro-Cases and 4 or 5 of the battery cases into my small gear bag along with the binoculars and camera and everything is secure and doesn't beat each other up. Plus, I can't stand having stuff rattle.

I'm looking for other ideas for organizing, I'd like to hear what works for you.

You're off to a good start! Its looking great... Well, if you want more ideas, check out this thread that was started by Ginseng. Both Ginseng and JanCPF have some great setups using the Pelican cases!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I use a Plano tackle box that I picked up at Sports Authority for less than $25.00. It has a large compartment in the top that my bigger lights fit in (Surge, Tec 40, etc.), and it has 4 drawers with dividers that most of my other lights fit in like it was made for them. It also has compartments in the lid that are perfect for spare bulbs, lanyards and other accessories. The compartments in the drawers also hold spare batteries quite nicely...before I got the Plano, I had a helluva time keeping my lights, batteries and accessories organized. This thing works like a charm for me!

I picked up a plastic box from Ikea which is in a way like a tackle box. Its got 2 predivided sections already, and comes with smaller pieces so you can add in the dividers whichever way you like in the box. Fits most of my lights, altho it doesn't have any of the fancy foam stuff...

Thanks for the link, Stanley. I missed that thread. I need to get some of the P & P foam inserts for my Pelican Cases. I liked JanCPF's dividers made out of a mousepad, I have one I can cut up and do that with.

PJD, the Plano tackle boxes are an excellent suggestion. I've seen some small clear plastic lure boxes that are divided into 6 or so compartments. Those might work for some of these small parts. Like have one just for my Streamlight spare lamps, one for Surefire spare Lamp Assemblies, etc.

Right now Radio Shack is closing out a small data storage case that holds 6 batteries very well. I'll try and post some picks. They are black, and unzip on 3 sides. They are normally about $6.00, and on sale for about $3.50

If you wanted to go with some class and have deep pockets the new Gerstner chests are nice. I wish I could afford one for my folding knives and lights. I'd make a chest at work if I had the time.

this one lists for around $700 but you can probably find it for around $500. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/broke.gif

I like the Surefire SC series carriers for batteries, myself. I can toss em in my pack or bag and they are lightweight and waterproof. I have some of the Inanycase organizers and found the rubber inserts a little heavy for EDC and they are not waterproof but my wife likes the color coding and they are great to store batts around the apartment.

Oh man...now those are really cool. Reminds me of "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." ! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Jtivat,

What is the model of your Pelican cases?

thanks

They are 1500's and a 1450 with Pick and Pluck foam. I need to get some more of the foam as I left the M6/X10 case open on the floor the other night and one of the cats used it as a scratch pad! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Oooppps JT, sorry to hear, where is best place to purchase the cases and in what range of price are they?

I got in loved with them :-)

Every one seems to be more organized than my dad or I when it comes to torches and their batteries...What we have is a big boxfilled with various sized batteries somewhat organized by size. I need to get on his case about coming up with something "less cluttered".
