I am looking for a small (preferably powered by two lithium batteries) xenon light. what would you recomend? i was looking at the E2E and C2 and X2 by pentagonlight. are any of these good? and what do yo know about reputation of pentagonlight? http://pentagonlight.com/
thanks

Surfire G2

Brinkman Maxfire

Brinkman Legend LX

These are all great 2x 123 lithium lights. I have the last two, I have nothing bad to say about them at all!

My first choice is the Surefire A2 and my second choice is the E2e.

edit: I would prefer a Surefire L4 to a E2e. I listed the A2 & E2e because this is in the incandescent forum.

Give us some idea of what you'll be using it for. Do you want a lot of throw, or spill? Waterproof or just resistant? How much do you want to pay? A Maxfire costs $19, G2 around $30, an A2 around $150. I personally started off with a G2...it's a great value, Surefire quality, and tough as nails, and you can stick a P61 LA in it and get a whole lot of light. But it doesn't have a lock out tailcap and it's not entirely waterproof. Depends on your needs, but it's a great way to start out IMHO.

I kinda like the G2 for EDC, mainly because it's tougher than snot, Nitrolon instead of metal to keep my hands warmer, and it's inexpensive enough that it won't make me cry forever if I lost it.

But for true EDC, I'd like something smaller than a 2 cell 123 light. An E1e is pretty small, maybe a QIII or a FF or something..

I got an E1e in my front pocket 18 hours a day. you would be suprised how bright 15 lumens is, anyway it is small and I can carry it nomatter what I am wearing. As for the E2e not much bigger but in my opinion (IMO) a little to long to carry in a front pocket all day long but they are bright and the thow is great. if your into thow check out the Streamlight TL2 it is a little bigger than the E2e but wow can it throw and at half the price.

If you want a 2x123 light, go with the Surefire L4. It's taken over E2e in the EDC department. I havent carried my E2e in a LONG time...

What's your intended use? We can help you more if you tell us what you want to use the light for.

I already have an inova x5 which I think has pretty good spill, so I'm lookin for something with alot of throw. I just assumed that an incandescent will generaly have better throw, is this true? Also, I dont need water proof, but resistant would be nice. I also want something metal, and preferably type III hard anodized, I just really like that finish.

Incans dont need a very big reflector to throw well, so generally incans throw better yes.
I dont know what you mean with 'alot of throw', throw 30feet, 60, 100+?

I carry a E2e, and I dont agree that the L4 has taken over the E2e in all aspects, L4 has less throw and I simply like the beam of incans (good incans) better.

The E2e doesn't have THAT much throw though, it's more of medium distance light, say up to 50feet of good light. (very rough guess)
I believe the Pelican M6 is a good incan thrower, it's also not that expensive (Batterystation has them).

Hi 850Turbo:

Sorry, dont know too much about the pentagonlights.

I agree 100% with StEaLtH. His description of the E2e is *poifekt*! Although the E2e is an "incan", it is certainly not the farthest throwing incan out there. But it does meet your needs for a) type III HA finish, b) it is a xenon FL, and c) it uses 2 x 123s. Plus, it's freakin small too! Very EDC-able. So you might very well be happy with getting the E2e. And later if you want to go the LED route, you can upgrade with either a KL1 or KL4. Lots of possibilities.

If you want more throw than the E2e, any SF FL with the "p60" lamp, will outthrow the E2e. So the G2, 6P, C2... but to get the type III HA finish, you will want to go with the C2 then. Not the most affordable kit either but a nice piece nonetheless. If i've missed another obvious suggestion I am sure other CPFers will clarify.

Good luck!
CQB

Edit: I previously posted comments comparing throw with incans vs leds. Then I reread your original post and you didnt mention anything about leds, so my apologies for the earlier (& lengthy) post.

I 2nd the E1e for a EDC. very bright, for one batt, and good throw. It's been my main EDC since i got it. I like the E2e/d, also, and with both a KL-1 get a good LED headed light too.
I too like incan's beam's better, especially outside.
A E1e or E2e/d give's you a choice between incan and LED, in about 20 second's, and you still have the same basic light that you are acustomed to. The SF E-series lineup is hard to beat. VDG
