Back in the days before friendster.com there was sixdegrees.com. I tried sixdegrees, but it looks like they "disappeared". They still own the domain name though.

Never bothered registering for friendster though. As for orkut, it looks like it's limited to google employees and their friends. As of now at least.

I think only 15,000 people are on it right now. You need to be invited first.
