Re: Another green ldo1 ss

Its a real pain, outside the light is great with the green tint but inside it makes me feel ill. For some reason all the ld01 ss lights i have seen have had a silver baking in the led which die sits on instead of the yellow one. All my other well tinted cree q5's all have the yellow backing. I know that the different coloured baking means that the led's are from different factories. Maby the leds are made in a slightly different way in the factories and therefore one favours white tints and the other reats a more green puke colour tint.

I got 2 LD01, 1 SS and 1 alu, both with silver backing and both creamy white.

Nope. The dies are made in america, then some assembled in the US, some assembled in china. Some people prefer silver backs (china), some yellow backs (america). There's no difference in performance, you've just been unlucky.

Update - got a replacement

I just received a beautiful new LD01 stainless with a perfect white beam.:ooo: :twothumbs . This one came from Fenix Store. It got here (California) really fast too. This one also has really smooth thread action right out of the box - I couldn't be happier.

A happy winner of the LED lottery. I need to stop reading threads about rotten squid urine green tint as the fear of it is holding me back.

Re: Another green ldo1 ss

Green tint is a disgrace. :thumbsdow

Agreed...no one should have to deal with that...you should just send that awful light to me and I will dispose of it....:naughty: :naughty:

Re: Another green ldo1 ss

I received mine a few days ago and it also has a slight green tint. I suppose I'll live with it unless someone posts a fix for it. Other than tint, I like it.

hi

my first ss ld01 i recived was green and i mean really really green so i returned that one back to the dealer the output didint seem bright enough either, the second i recived from a different dealer is alot whiter with a hint of yellow.

my black ld01 is white but looks allmost blue compared to my new ss one,
i really like the ss i recived the second time:thumbsup: but i do think if fenix is advertising this as a special edition they should have used better quality bins.

cheers

+1 Ditto here, jonnyfgroove!!! Looks like we're among the lucky ones. I can live with that.

Re: Update - got a replacement

Today I recieved my LD01 SS with a nice neutral white beam - perfect!:twothumbs

I am very pleased with it all in all, the finish it nice, it feels good in the hand, the PWM is undetectable in normal use although the grip on the head is not great and it needs more aggressive knurling.

Thank GOD!!! i got mine with white tint I'm very HAPPY with it. Can some body give some runtimes charts with this ld01 sts. THANK'S

In regards to the inductor whine, I can hear mine if I set it to medium and lightly press the bezel up to a window , the glass really amplifies the whine.

I noticed that the inductor whine on mine seems to be much worse with eneloops than with an alkaline AAA. So bad in fact that my 3 year old across the room stopped playing with his noisy geotrax trains and asked me what that noise was. I switched it to an alkaline and I haven't been able to reproduce the loud whine, just the normal quiet one that I really have to listen for. Switched back to the eneloop again and the loud whine returned. Is this a coincidence?

Mine has white tint.

I have to stick the light in my ear in order to hear the inductor whine (which probably says more about my hearing). Apparently young people have much better hearing at higher frequencies.
Tried Sanyo NiMh 1000mah, Rayovac Hybrids, and 10440 and they were all comparable.

My tint is white, thankfully. Because of this tint issue I bought from 4sevens, knowing that I could return it if I didn't like it. I would keep spending money to ship it back until I got one I like, even if I had to buy from several vendors. I think this light is worth it.

I have several Crees and all of them are white, including the cheap ones from KD and DX. Fenix really got screwed with this batch of LEDs. On the other hand, they had no business selling off-tint premium lights. They should do themselves and their customers a favor and test all of their lights before they package them. If some are imperfect, they should label them as seconds and sell them in a different channel. I think they underestimate how much it hurts their business when they sell imperfect lights at premium prices.

I've just noticed that mine whines on low and medium also. It is not bad as yours by the sound of it though and its actually quite a pleasant and relaxing whine.

lol.

What bothers me more is that the runtime seems to be poorer than the L0D. :(

Re: Inductor Whine

I had to stick the LD01 SS into my ear in order to hear the whine. It's probably present in other flashlights, too. Just haven't made time to listen to any of them that closely -- yet. :sssh:

In any case, the whine isn't loud enough for me to notice and certainly doesn't interfere with nor detract from the light's operation in any way.

Re: Inductor Whine - Part II

One more thing regarding LD01 SS "whine" . . .

It's only present (audible) when in either of the two reduced output modes. In other words, I cannot detect any whine whatsoever when in FULL (highest) output mode.
