So this is sort of a flashlight.

I found this on TAD Gear's website. then found out that many local sporting good stores sell it.

I use it with a solid white nalgene bottle. it makes a nice lantern. it isnt very bright for walking. but if you are camping or have it on your night stand, it makes a great night light. say you wake up at night and then turn it on, it works well. Just not really bright enough to illuminate a walkway.

Thanks for your post.

I've been wondering about the usefulness of the Guyot Firefly. It sounds like its more of a marker light than a utility lantern. Is that your verdict?

Glad to hear you like this light. I'm tempted by it every time I go to the local REI store. Might have to go have another look.

I had one of these Firefly's on my Nalgene before. It is not a bad light to use as a marker in the dark night. I would say it is even adequate(I'd rather use a Zebralight H50) for reading a book too. It has 3 5mm LEDs if I'm not mistaken. Uses 3 AAA batteries and doesn't have the most secure battery placement because I sometimes experienced intermittent light because of battery connection problems. After less then 6 months of use, the area where one of the screws are used to hold the battery lid together broke.

Good thing I bought it from REI, excellent return service.

It doesn't look too hard to mod. The PCB board(?) with the 5mm's is easy to access from the battery compartment. I'm not sure what kind of 5mm LEDs are presently in the existing one. The light having to pass through 2 mediums greatly weakens the output.

It is a good backup light for camping or everyday use when you need a secondary or thirdary
