Not sure if this belongs in the McGizmo subforum or Homemade but I really just wanted to show off my updated PR-T head.
It had an XR-E when I bought it second hand and its been through the emitter swap before. I last had a LuxV Green DD in it.
Now I've swapped in a XP-G R5 Cool White, which has a great beam profile in the McR-27 (well theres a donut hole if your within 12" of anything)
Scratched it up by the threads getting the old can out and really scratched the plating off the can but none of that can be seen from the outside.
Once I had the old board removed, I had to make a contact board out of a cheap driver from a RC-G2 as the Haiku driver is double sided with smd components.
I stripped and sanded the components off the contact board and soldered a positive and negative lead to it. Then I heated the can and soldered the contact board to the inner rim of the can.
Once cooled I gave the contact board a coat of liquid electric tape to keep the Haiku driver from shorting. I soldered the Haiku to the contact board and the can was ready.
With a fresh emitter in the PR-T I epoxied the top edge of the driver can, fed the wires through the bulkhead, and pushed the can in place, then put a body on the PR-T to keep the can solid for an hour as the AAE set.
I clipped the sides of the emitter heat-sink holes so the wires could come up inside the reflector. As you can see above these are the larger notches now. Its a Cutter board. A 16mm star might fit but then the reflector would touch the contacts and not fit down in the head all the way. A lathe would help cut back the reflector if seeing the leads was a problem but they don't seem to interfere with the beam. With the wires tucked down into the chase between star and head, the reflector has no clearance/grounding issues.
Now I have a 3 level PR-T and aside from the emitter its all McGizmo made. Now if only I had a black 1 cell McLux body with clip. The 18650 Fivemega body works for now (theres a McClicky in it)
