Has anybody tried the Sylvania 'Golden Dragon' DOT-its?

Stuck a couple under the cabinets today; great for accenting one particular object (not enough heigth under a standard cupboard for much spill); solidly built (heavy for their size); stationary magnet allows one to simply grasp the unit and re-install quickly for cleaning/servicing; having two output levels is nice.

Keep in mind that this is not a long-range motion detector. There's a lot of usable light that is definitely more than bright enough for the areas that these were designed for; yet you will almost have to touch this thing in order to activate it (which oviously cuts the convenience level down somewhat in certain placements).

Overall, I like it.

Got two today. Wish I had rated for the reviews, as they are not what I am looking for. These are motion activated not motion sensing. They work kind of like those towel dispensers that give you a paper towel when you wave your hand across the front. One wave =high, two waves = low, third wave off.

If you make your fingers into a piece sign you can sweep your fingers across and go directly to low.

I'm really looking for something that detects when you enter a room and doesn't stay on for more than a couple minutes after you leave.

It is very bright though. Even though the LED is in a diffuser optic it still casts a pretty spotty and splotchy beam . For total flood you can remove the optic.

If anybody wants one I'll ship it free.

I picked one up today at Home Depot. I'm very impressed with it. The beam on mine has no blotches at all, just a nice white flood. We installed it over the kitchen sink to add more light when doing the dishes.

In my dark basement it seems to put out about as much light as my P2D on Medium. It's hard to compare the flood of the "Dragon" with a P2D. It destroys an old Inova X5 which is the only "all flood" light that I have. I'd take beam shots, but my digicam went for a poop this week.

The thing should run cool enough, as the base of the unit is fairly heavy metal.

Removal of the cover for battery changes is very easy. One change that I'd like to see is some way of selecting how long it stays on for, I think an hour is too long. Total runtime on high with 2500mah NiMH's....should be a 2-3 hours?

"...I'm really looking for something that detects when you enter a room and doesn't stay on for more than a couple minutes after you leave..."

I'm looking for the same thing with at least this much "oomph" and am not sure by looking at the new Phillips version that it is out there yet.

"...Even though the LED is in a diffuser optic it still casts a pretty spotty and splotchy beam . For total flood you can remove the optic...."

The above is exactly why I respect your opinion and other CPFers on this forum. I look at this thing and it almost blinds me plus casts a pretty decent clean white beam down the hall...and you guys are able to pick out the true qualities of the light itself. Since I don't even know what a diffuser optic is or how I can separate the optic from it...are you telling me that if I could remove this (somehow) it would light up my counter much more effectively and still be safe to use?

+1...If they could get the time down and adjust the sensor a bit; this light would be just about perfect for many more applications.

I saw these in K-Mart yesterday. They've been out for awhile now. Does anyone know how long they will run off Eneloops?

Why don't you just buy a motion sensor like this :

, and hook that up to some under cabinet lights like this :

I mean for the convenience of batteries, you don't need a socket, and you can move it around places sure. But I'm pretty sure once you place it somewhere, that's where it's gonna stay. On top of that, you'll never have to replace batteries with something AC powered and it can be much brighter than its battery sipping brethren.

That makes sense to me. Am I missing something about why everyone loves the battery powered gizmos?

Is it possible to put a film on the lens cover? I need these to shine red... Any suggestions?
