I just got a new HDS clicky w/ flush button. It seems like there is a problem with the button. When I use the button, ~5% of the time there is no effect. For example, sometimes I'll triple click but get results for a double click or I'll double click but get the single click results. I can hear and feel all the clicks. Is there a break in period for the switch? Or am I clicking too fast/slow? I have used other clicky lights(Novatac) and didn't have problems. Thanks.

Well, all I can tell you is this. I have had my HDS for about 2+ years. There was a period soon after I got it where I was experiencing what you describe. I was going to send it in to be checked out but then the problem stopped. My conclusion is that in adapting to the clicky, I had optimized my 'click' to the point that I was pressing hard enough to hear/feel the click but not quite hard enough to make the contact in the microswitch.

Try clicking just little more firmly or definitively when you click. I have not seen the problem re-surface in over 2 years since then. For me, it was me that was the problem.

I had this problem with mine too. I assumed the mis clicks were just incomplete clicks because they were so infrequent and probably me just not pressing the button properly. I noticed it soon after getting my light and the issue continued, very infrequently albeit, until my light developed other issues and the mis clicks became more pronounced. This was about two years after getting the light. I sent it in thinking it was a switch problem but was actually told it was an electronic issue, something that couldn't be repaired due to the potting assembly. I was told it was rare, but covered, and now I'm awaiting a replacement. I would suggest keeping a log to see how often it's happening and then sending off an e-mail to HDS to make them aware and see if repair/replacement is needed.

I had a similar probelm with my Rotary. I called Henry, after which he evaluated the problem while I followed his instruction with the light in hand. Both times Henry asked me to send the light back to him. The first was due to a software problem, and the second was a problem with the switch.

Both times, the Rotary was repaired within a week.

PS I should note that my Rotary was made during the early production runs which a few had this software problem.

It's a common issue with HDS lights. My legacy 170 tactical had this issue for a few days and somehow or rather the issues worked itself out about 2 years ago. It has been ok since then. Same goes for my first production run rotary.

I had the same problem with my first production rotary. I called Henry and after discussing what was going on, he sent me another switch within two days of my conversation with him. The replacement switch has worked perfectly. This is just one reason I enjoy doing business with Henry. All he asked is that I return the defective switch as soon as I received the replacement. I sent it back that very day.

Anyone ever experience the switch not having momentary function? Sometimes mine will not momentarily press but come on all the way. It comes and goes..

If my thumb was slightly off-axis when pushing I would get missed clicks. It would make the sound, but not engage. This was only when clicking off-axis, could not make it happen when pushing straight in.

I have 3 HDS lights (one is a rotary) and have never had any problems. Call or email Henry and he will make it right! These are "the lights that will get you home."

Wow, I have to admit that I'm shocked to hear this is a common problem.

I've owned four HDS Clickies the past three years and none of them have had any problems whatsoever.
Well ... I've been a bit disappointed with the beam quality on some of them but that's another topic.

Probably a new battery tube. This was also the method of exchange for the 1st gen RA Clicky with the sealed switches (just like the Rotary).

When I use my Rotary's press n' hold burst, there are times when I release, it'll stay / remain on burst and not revert to the preselected output. However, I feel it's due to user er, errr, errrrr, .......... Ok lets try again, ..... user errrr .... or!

Mine too OP. i asked this same question before but only a few answered and no one either admitted to having it. Now I know that it is common.

This happens when I use the middle part of my thumb to open the light. I can clearly hear the click but is doesn't engages. Best thin to do with mine is really using the tip of my thumb and pressing firmly.

I am wondering if this mostly (or only?) affects the "flush" buttons ....

When I first tried my "legacy" 170 with flat tailcap, I noticed this maybe 1-2% of the time, and never that I can recall with the raised button.

Although I usually now use only the raised version on my several HDS/Ra torches, I also have gotten into the habit of pressing more firmly when using the flat type. Since then, it doesn't seem to occur much, or at all anymore

How do you change the switch out on the rotary?
Most likely Henry just sent him a new battery tube. I say this because that's what happened with my original Clicky a couple of years ago. It developed symptoms very similar to the OP's, and after contacting Henry, he sent me a new battery tube a couple of days later with the request that I send the faulty one back to him. The switch on the new tube worked perfectly, as do the switches on both of my Rotaries.

I see. That was pretty trusting of Henry to do so. Kudos to that!
