This one started out as the Golden Dragon model.
IMG_2460.jpg

To make it easier I used my desoldering iron to completely desolder the leads.

Desoldered, potting & screws removed.
IMG_2468.jpg

Emitter board removed.
IMG_2475.jpg

Driver assembly removed.

Unfortunately this mod calls for ditching the stock driver (sorry Henry). I need to extract the contact board.

I won't be needing the momentary switch & battery contact so off they came.

Since newer HDS lights don't have a module like the older HDS lights I have to duplicate the same height as the stock driver assy.

To do this I have to reduce the diameter of the new driver to fit a spacer that I will also need to make. Made a copper mandrel & soldered it directly the driver.

IMG_2563.jpg

Turned it down (PCB dust is very harmful!).
IMG_2570.jpg

IMG_2572.jpg

Made a spacer out of Delrin to provide proper height for the stock driver assy replacement.
IMG_2578.jpg

Driver sits on a lip inside the Delrin spacer.
IMG_2590.jpg

The screws that secured the stock emitter board is where it previously made ground contact. Since the stock emitter board is no longer being used I grounded the light inside the head.
Img_2599.jpg

Delrin spacer roughed up to help the epoxy hold as adhesives don't hold very well to acetal.
Img_2602.jpg

And finally the bottom view of the contact assy all assembled.

Thanks for looking.

Wow .... A great build DZ

It always amazes me how clean and meticulous your work is, a step further
than what you would expect from a stock factory light to be build.
