Hi,

Just a quick one.

I have a Gladius but not an HDS EDC. My question is whether the EDC can go lower than the Gladius on it's lowest setting? A light that can go very dim is imporatnt to me and I still find the Gladius a little bright on low.

Anyone have both that can tell me?

EDC is Every Day Carry.
HDS Systems makes the Ultimate/Basic 42 and 60 (GT and XR etc).
I use the Ultimate 60 for EDC.

I also like LOW levels of light to sometimes avoid destroying my night vision (without going to red).

If you are asking if the Ultimate 60, at its lowest setting, will be at a lower intensity than the Gladius at its lowest the answer is yes...at least my U60 goes MUCH lower than my Gladius...
I THINK that the other HDS lights will be about the same at the lowest intensity.

Well how I am holding off getting an HDS light I dont't know - I am weakening all the time - they sound great!

I have a few questions that I hope that sone HDS owners can help me with to make my future purchace all the more enjoyable.

I like the sound of the Ultimate 60 as you can change the settings, however I am a little confused by the 'GT' and the extended runtime options. Are these worth bothering with, or is the Ultimate 60 the one to go for?

Concening the accessory pack - a worthy item or no?

The clip - a problem area I hear. Is there a better clip available or is it best to just remove it and live with the resulting holes?

Lastly, should I wait and hold off my purchace until the 80 Lumen model comes out or is this just a pipe dream?

All input welcome - I can soon see that I will be totally /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/broke.gif but I am loving every minute of it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I am very happy with the plain U60...color is great!

Check for recent threads on the GT and XR for their comments.
The New Black Clip is now available...mine is on order.
Check this thread for MANY comments. I think it will answer most of your questions... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have no idea when a new "Ultimate" will be released.
If it has at least 100 Lumens, I will get one too! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have it from a 'reliable source' that future Ultimates will be released in a 80 (or 85) model, followed by a 120 model. I already own a Basic 60 GT and an Ultimate 60 XR, and love them both.

My guess is that you'll see the 80 advertised very soon, but wait many months for the 120. And, I'm sure you'll pay a premium...

The 60's are surprisingly bright. My 'reliable source' tells me that their recent LED purchases have resulted in surprisingly high quality color and runtime lights, and that many 'recent' ones could qualify as both 'GT' and 'XR' without paying the premium.

So, if it were me, I'd buy a plain (non-GT/XR) Ultimate, recently produced. Serial number? Don't know for sure, but make sure it is over 1200 or so, and the higher over that the better...

Why so, JohnF? Mine's #0642, so is that a bad thing? I bought it last month, don't notice any problems with it, and it has a good soft white tint to it.
 
I think what he meant to say was that the higher serial numbers will have a higher chance of using one of the better leds he mentioned.
 
Actually, I've not heard of anyone complain about the tint on any EDC - I think they're carefull about what they let out the door. My Basic 60 is in the 500's, and I love it - bright, white, great beam shape, and good runtime. Can't ask for much else.
