Since I bought the McLuxIII-PD it has become my EDC. Up until that point I had EDC'd the HDS basic 42. The reason for the change is I'm not a holster person and I can't stand having a light sitting sideways in my pocket. The only way I feel comfortable is having the light clipped to my pocket. Nothing can compete with the PD in that area.

I think the HDS is a great light. It's probably the most high tech light you can buy. The problem I have is I don't really use it anymore. I have a U2 I use when I need a bigger light. I was thinking about selling the HDS and buying a light with a tighter beam. I'm looking at the E2L or the L1. More toward the L1. I feel like I would use one of these lights more than the HDS but I also feel like I'm downgrading. Was hoping on getting some ideas on what i should do.

I have no desire to spend money on a new light. It's either sell one light and buy another or keep what I have.

I've got an HDS Basic 60 and an L1. I really like them both!!

I keep an F04 beamshaper on the L1 for a very versatile torch! GREAT FLOOD on low or high for stumbling around the house - take off the beamshaper and GREAT THROW as well. Lights up anything in my little 5000 square foot yard (and all on 1 cell)!

I like the HDS as well and probably use both equally - but seem to be leaning towards the L1 for inside the house "night duty".

I think I'd take the HDS with me on the road if running errands.

You already have the HDS42 -I'd suggest going for the L1/F04 combo!!

Hi Sigman,
I already got an L1 but was wondering would it be better to get a HDS.
How does the 2 beams compared ot each other? Do shed me some lihgt

Must be some beamshots around these halls posted already eh? The L1 has only two brightness levels and it performs well for my uses.

However, due to the HDS being programmable (or if you get the Basic - then you have 4 levels of light vs. 2) - it can be customized for your specific needs/wants.

I don't need to go into these "all over again" as they have both been discussed in detail in other threads. The problem is trying to round all those threads up.

There's some EXCELLENT information on both of them in the reviews section here, at some of the other flashlight review sites, and in the Manufacturers Forum here for the HDS.

If I HAD to pick one - I'd go with the HDS! GhostReaction - you already have the L1, get a HDS and decide for yourself - you'll probably sell the L1 if you only want one of them?!
