Headbands for running - bouncing

Hello. Not actually head lamp question, but close enough I think..

I am trying to make running videos, shooting running in forest/orienteering with a head-cam. To get most out of it I am trying minimize bouncing. My current head band taken from pezl tikka plus isn't the best out there and my headbands for more heavy headlamps are too big and bulky for my tiny MD80 video camera. So I am looking something better.

My bouncing issue is parallel with head lamps, so I guess some members here should know tips and tricks how to reduce bouncing.

Also I remember someone posting blueprints for a nice head band. is it still available somewhere?

And last, I am also intrested hearing how experiences wearing lamp (=camera) elsewhere, like some kind of chest strap or strapping it to eye wear. Thanks!

That is a nice looking headband, but you may still have bouncing, (since it attached to you and you are bouncing)

They use steady cam rigs of various types for motion professionally. You can build one if you like but they can be heavy and bulky

Another easier solution is to use a baby stroller or surveyors wheel thing or a stick with a wheel you nailed to it (anything with a wheel and handle really)

-mount camera to wheeled device,
-push it infront of you
-enjoy smoother video

Its not perfect, but works well for most terrain. and of course you can get fancy and add shocks etc.

That's why it must be someting lightweight and not bulky. With current headgear I get quite ok quality but the headband needs to be uncomfortably tight. Also it would be nice to see hands (for map/compass use), so I should get camera lower somewhere but I really don't know where and how.

May I suggest wearing a lightweight helmet which would let you mount your camera and headlamp directly to it?

Since the helmet connects to your head at multiple points instead of just around your head like a headband it should be comfortable to fit tightly and also provide convenient attachment points for a headlamp and camera.

You will also find that the wider the lens is on the camera, the less bouncing is seen in the video. The GoPro Hero HD has quite a wide lens, and is specifically designed for shooting sports. I believe GoPro makes a chest harness as well.
