Im searching a good bright headlamp for camping.
Found this 2 so far at DX:

a) Cree Q5-WC SF-H001, 3xAAA in same housing, 2 ribbons, 132g, 16.50 USD, sku.20763

b) Cree XR-E P4, 4xAA in seperated housing , 2 ribbons, 170g, 21 USD, sku.12275

Are there better ones somewhere?

don't know where you've found these as the links have been removed by DM51 per CPF policy just in case your Post was intended solely to sell these HLs (i believe that is the reason and don't mean to put "words", so to speak, in DM's mouth).

anyways, checkout BrightGuy.com, Lighthound.com, Karst Sports, and REI.com. can't tell you if they have a better offering at the $30 price range, but they carry many, many HLs from the most popular manufacturers which are available in the USA.

since you haven't provided more specific info, like how, in particular, the HL will be used (e.g. nighttime hiking/navigation, in camp task/proximity lighting, both purposes), it's difficult to state what HL you ought to get. without this info, i'd be tempted to suggest a HL which has both 5mm LEDs (for task/proximity lighting) and a higher-powered Cree/SSC/Rebel LED for spotting things further away. in place of the 5mm LEDs, a "flip-up" diffuser for the hi-powered LED is an acceptable substitute.

as far as 3xAA vs. 4xAA goes, if the extra weight isn't an issue, i'd, generally speaking, go with the 4xAA, as, again generally speaking, your burntime (and regulated burntime - if the HL is regulated) will be increased. this is perhaps more important if you plan on using the higher output levels on the HL.

there are several other issues that ought to be addressed (e.g., water-resistance, for one, and resistance to cold - even at this time of year, at significant elevation, this might be an issue, robustness, amongst other issues), but w/o more info fr/you, it's difficult to guess as to your precise requirements.

happy trails.

Thank you half-watt for your good answer. I dont know why the links are removed, got no message.
I have seen lots DX links (bessiebenny always post them), so i thought its ok to post them too.
I dont sell them, i have no company :).

[links deleted - DM51]

Thank you for your links, but im from europe. Not many shops from the US offer good shipping conditions to us ;).

Made a mistake on my first post - the first is with 3xAAA . So i think there is a hughe difference in runtime and compactness.

A headlamp with 2 modes will be neat - one for near distances and long runtime and 1 for walking/inlineskating, etc.
Maybe i find a headbrace which can hold normal Flashlights, dont know if this things exists.

I deleted the links in post #1 and now again in post #4. The "sku" numbers were left there for those who may have been interested in the items. You were aware of that - the thread info showed I had edited your post until you went back and re-edited it. Half-Watt explained why it was done.

...but im from europe....

Petzl (a French company, as you probably well know) is a Mfr. of good HLs, as is Mammut (Swedish???). All may be more the $30USD, however.

3xAAA = Petzl TikkaXP might be a good model which is good for both distance illumination and task/proximity lighting with its built-in, deployable diffuser for the hi-powered LED beam.

Petzl TikkaPlus is a good choice for task/proximity lighting if longer distance viewing is not necessary.

happy trails.

i've checked out those SKU #'s after DM51 Posted that they were from DX.

since you asked, i'll attempt to render an opinion based upon actual experience.

purchased two similar, though NOT identical, HLs off of eBay 1+ years ago (i be forgettin' the exact timeframe).

3xAAA is a too small a power source if you're going to running the HL on its highest o.p. level. if keeping it as light as possible, in terms of weight, is your primary selection criteria, then it is, obviously, the better choice of the two. i gave it away to a nice 12y old boy at church (with parental approval [his, not mine!!] after explaining the dangers of shining the light in his own eyes, his dog's eyes or his little sister's eyes - i was glad to detect NO look of disappointment on his face when i included his lil' sis on the list of DON'Ts; otherwise, i would have been forced to rescind my offer).

my 4xAA had only 5x5mm LEDs located beneath the hi-powered Luxeon, not Cree, LED. mine suffered an "infant mortality" failure (a REAL term, and *NOT* a "half-watt"-ism, normally defined as a premature electronic failure within the first 168 hours of powered use/power application - mine occurred within the first few hours of use; shipped from China to the good ol' USofA, and for the money i paid for it, didn't try to get a refund or ship it back). it was fairly easy (ok, ok, truth be told...trivial - you just need a soldering iron and half a brain [i qualified on both accounts!!]) to convert the electronic switch to a mechanical one (i just happened to have one that fit just right in one of my spare parts bin down the basement workshop/laboratory/dungeon) and make it a very simple ON-OFF HL with both the hi-powered and the 5x5mm LEDs always on at the same time. since the modified HL still looked and worked decent, i gave that one away to another young fella' as well.

sorry, that's all i can tell you about my experience with somewhat similar HLs.

IMO (YMMV), Petzl and Mammut would be better choice in terms of quality and performance (unfortunately, probably NOT price), especially if your life or health might depend upon being able to use the HL when you needed to.
