Headlamp for auto work.

I do mechanic's work as a hobby. As my work often goes late, I end up working in the dark a lot. Not fun holding a flashlight in one hand and working with the other, so I want a headlamp. I have almost decided on the Surefire Saint Minumus, but if someone has a very good reason for a different lamp, I'm listening.

I'd recommend one of the flood style neutral Zebralights. No distracting hotspot, just even natural looking light. Neutrals are much easier on the eyes and give much better color rendering, which is particularly noticable with wiring harnesses, etc.

Close up work like this is what the all flood ZLs were made for, there's nothing that beats them.

I should also mention that my previous Craftsman headlamp died VERY quickly, so I want good reliability. Thus Surefire. I've heard that Zebralight has some problems with that.

I've owned a half dozen ZLs and have never had a problem. I haven't bought a Surefire light in over 5 years and don't really miss them. I actually have have more problems with SF lights than any other single brand, YMMV.

The floody ZL headlights are a good value and are perfect for up close work. Give one a try and I think you will agree.

I will mimic this reply. I have a Zebralight H501W and working under the cars in the dark is my main usage for it, perfect for the task IMO.

I love my ZL H31F (flood - uses a rcr). I have used it about twice a week to take out the trash and complete misc tasks for a bit over a year with no problems. The H51 model is similar, if you wanted to go with a AA option.
