Help me decide

Hi all-

I'm about to order a few lights for Christmas gifts and I've narrowed it down to two. I'm wanting an all around light for outdoor use (hunting, camping, etc.) that can take an 18650 and CR123's. I'm about 80% set on the Nitecore EC2 but still have my eye on the Sunwayman C20C. I've read that the Nitecore is a little more throwy than the C20C and would like to know if anyone has any experience with the two. I've read Selfbuilt's reviews and feel pretty confident that the Nitecore is the one but I'm still a bit hesitant. Between the two, which one would you pick and why? All opinions welcome.

Good choices!

Here's to help you get started:

EC2
Good
1. Smaller than the C20C
2. Nice UI
3. Throws better than the C20C
4. Longer runtime compared to the C20C

Bad
1. Not waterproof (IPX8)
2. the cover for the mode and power button might get worn out faster than the conventional rubber button

C20C
Good
1. Nice build quality (as expected from Sunwayman lights)
2. Higher output (XML versus XPG on the EC2)
3. Rubber covered side switch (more durable imho)
4. Waterproof (ive dunked mine under water several times now, no problems!)
Bad
1. Button rides a bit high, and WILL activate if it gets bumped in your pocket. (happened once to me when i forgot to lock it out using the UI) NOTE: both lights have UI lockout function
2. Doesnt throw as much as the EC2, more of a general EDC light.


Personal take:

I too had this dilemna of which same lights to pick, I had my heart set on the EC2 because of its UI and throw, but when the issue of waterproofness came out, I bought the C20C instead. No regrets! I'll just wait for the version 2 of this EC2 before pulling the trigger on it. By then they might have sorted out the waterproof issues.

Recommendation:

If you have your heart set on the EC2, go for it. Just dont get it wet.

If you prefer a waterproof light and sacrifice a bit of throw but better output, then the C20C is for you. Just remember to always lock out the light via the UI or a short twist of the tailcap.

Good luck with your choice! Both are good lights with each of their own shortcomings. :)

Another noteworthy light to mention: E35 from Fenix, simpler than these two, but quality is guaranteed from a Fenix light. :)
