help! newwish stopped working!

i was trying to do the pot mod by drilling a hole next to the button. i finally got the hole and then tested to see if i didnt screw it up so i pressed the button on the laser came on. i took out the batteries and tryed to see if my little screw would reach the pot. it seemed to contact. i put the batteries back in but this time it didnt work. i barely touched the pot. then it started to get hot so i took it apart.
any idea?

If its getting hot, there is most likely a short somewhere. Make sure you didnt accidentally move something by mistake.

whats the easiest way to open one of these? It hasent even seen its first night. What a bummer, may have to buy another one

ok i managed to yank the main part out. the only thing that seemed to be messed up was the pot; it kind of poped out so i pushed it back in.. now the hard part, getting it back together. i tried putting the little black button in its place, but now it wont click, so even if i got it back together i dont think it will click on.. what am i doing wrong?

it was getting hot because the battery spring was probably touching the case, there for creating a short.it'z because that little black foam that retains the spring eventually shrinks.i fixed that by cutting a piece of silicon tubing and used that instead.o yea and cuda how did u manage u get the diode and circuit board out?

so if it short it will never work again?

I got some plyers, not needle nose but some sort of square shaped ones and tryed pulling. then i hit the head with the plyers to loosen it and pulled again and it finally pulled out.

btw, does anyone know whats wrong with my button? it wont click it. not the metal button but inard part?

as long as it wasnt shorting out for a long time your pointer should still work.and for the button, the same thing happened to mine it doesnt click but it still workz, i guess it just wearz down after a while.o yea and u know how u say u tryed pulling wat were u pulling on? and wen u said u hit the head do u mean the brass part? and did it still work after u took it out? o yea and last thing was the diode pressed in?THANKZ!!!

ok so how do u turn it on?

I hit the head of the laser to get that whoe peice off. Are you talking about opening that main part? oh and i was pulling on the head of the laser.

i drilled out the nozzle to 8 mm (for other reasons then(by pure luck) pushed on the outer part of the lens and it moved back a bit, then i just wiggled and pulled off the end cap(its tight), then pushed out the whole assembly, came out ok. to put it back i put it in the end cap first then line it up with the button hole to see if its the right length, then you have to put the button in the tube and have the hole facing the floor, just tilt it til the button rolls over the hole and then you can sort of manover it in to place, then you need to push the rest in , make sure its square so the button will push against the switch. easyer than it sounds trust me.

Rexer, i was able to put it back together as you described, but the square button will not click in at all. It was working fine first, then all of sudden it stopped. I tried putting it in different ways but it just will not click

Take it back out and see if it clicks mate, if it does then your not lining it up properly when you put it back together. its only an inline type switch, should be able to replace it easy if it is dead, only 2 points to solder.
