Help - Pelican M6 tailcap disassembly

Just received the PM6 clickie conversion kit from FlashlightLens.com and am trying to install it, but I'm having trouble disassembling the tailcap. I'm guessing the plastic plate in the tailcap holds the switch assembly. Is there a trick to removing the retainer, or is some sort of tool needed. Thanks in advance.

BTW, the replacement lens included in the combo drops right in and fits nicely.

Well look in the bottom of the cap and you will see a plastic cup with 2 holes in it this part unscrews from the tailcap I used a fine tipped pair of needle nose pliers just put the tips in the holes and unscrew it under that you will see a very stubborn flat plastic disk I pryed mine out with a pair of scissors the grease under it is holding it more than anything then you will see an aluminum disk with two holes in it again needle nose pliers in the holes and unscrew it then tap the tailcap on the table and the rest of the JUNK /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif should fall out.

I'm assuming Pelican will tell you they probably have some sort of custom made spanner wrench for the job. I used a set of snap ring pliers, which is essentially the same concept as a pair of fine needle nose pliers. It seemed that nothing in the tailcap was very tight, so it should come out pretty easily.

Thought snap ring pliers would do the trick. Lacking those, hope I have a pair of fine tipped needle nose pliers around here somewhere.

I've used two brads positioned (with some difficulty) in a
locking pliers, and once even a fine-tipped Fiskars 5" scissorsdid the job (and almost broke).

Took a quick trip to the local Harbor Freight Tools and picked up a pair of their finest quality $2 needle nose pliers which did the job nicely. Was going to get the snap ring pliers, but I figured the needle nose would be more useful over time.

In any case, the install went smoothly (no, it ain't rocket science), and the switch works beautifully! Also, the PM6 feels a noticeably lighter with the new switch components. There's no problem with exposure of the tailcap O-ring when the modified cap is locked-out since it's screwed down further than stock, and it only requires a very slight turn for lock-out. The included O-ring which fills the gap between the tail cap and body is a nice touch, but doesn't want to stay put when the light is removed from the holster.

Sure would be nice if Pelican eventually went to a switch like this in the M6. In the meantime, IMHO this is easily $17.50 (for the clickie/B270 lens combo) worth of improvement.
