I recently bought a used E1E with a teardrop head. The lens is pretty scratched up and I believe it is blocking significant amount of light coming out. Considering it is not a bright incan to begin with, I really want to replace the lens.

First question, is this a smart move or is it hard to replace and not worth the effort? I mean, maybe the scratches are not blocking that much light...much less than I thought.

Secondly, how would do I it? Have anyone done this before? Removing the old one and put in the new one? What is the proper way of doing it so that I get proper seal?

I had the same problem with an old, worn E1 I recently bought. The beam had so many artifacts in it it looked like the effect of a mirrored disco ball.

The lens did not look to be easily removable so I polished it with auto polish, and it helped tremendously, but some deep nicks were too far gone to fix.

Good luck.

This is what I recommend as well. The old E1 lens are plastic and press fit into the bezel. Although not impossible, I have not found a good replacement to this date. I would recommend purchasing plastic polish (I used mothers) and try buffing the scratches out. Chances are that some are deep and won't come out. However, most will. Try that before attempting to remove the lens.
