Hey guys!
I'm trying to find a pack that I can haul heavy, dense stuff in, like textbooks, and the pack I have crapped out. I was looking for something with a large main compartment about 3000 cu in and maybe some side pockets. MOLLE would be good, but isn't exactly vital. I need the entire pack to be made out of 1000D cordura, single layer is good, but double layered would be awesome. The mandatory double-quintuple stitched is well, mandatory. I would prefer greens and browns as far as color. I would like to be below $200 if possible, but I'm willing to look.

Thanks much,

There are many manufacturers of top quality backpacks. Spec.-Ops brand T.H.E. pack might be good for you, as is many of Blackhawk's line of packs as well. I don't own any of Blackhawk's packs, but I understand that they have been over-engineered for durability.

Maxpedition's Vulture and Condor backpacks might meet most, if not all, your needs. On the opposite end of the scale would be Maxped's Falcon II backpack. While it tops out at about 1000 cubic inches capacity, It has MOLLE webbing so you can mix-and-match various pouches, thus increasing load-carrying volume. Try reading the Deanster's report on the Falcon II. You'll be surprised at what you can stuff in there.

Summation:
Brands: Spec.-Ops brand, Blackhawk, Maxpedition, Eagle Industries, 5.11 Tactical, Duluth Trading, Duluth Packs, Filson's.
Websites: LA Policegear, Botach Tactical, Brigade Quartermasters, milspecmonkey.com, militarymorons.com, EDCforums.com

I wish you luck in your search.

Rgr that. I think I'll figure out what pack to get once I'm on christmas break. Then I can look at all the sales and maybe look at some packs at REI or something.

Thanks for the input!

AW right! I think I've found THE pack for me. It is the Osprey Porter 65. It has 840 and 1680(!) denier fabric, and is just generally awesome. Here's the link for it on REI's site.

I hope I can order it soon, so I can finish the year of school with it :D

I'd go with the Spec-Ops "T.H.E. Pack" as well! Tough pack with lifetime warranty. Both my sons use them for their college books.
