I have a stubborn D battery corroded in my maglight. The first two came out with out a problem, but the last two are not moving. I have tried to break up the corrosion around the battery and the wall of the flashlight, but it still won't move. On top, the light bulb housing is blocking access to the batteries. Anybody got some helpful hints or home remedies? Thanks. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

If it's a recent M*g, you can try loosening the entire switch/lamp assembly by prying off the rubber switch cover, then using a hex wrench in the little hole in the middle of the switch to loosen a set screw. Then the whole assembly would normally slide out the bottom, but you might be able to persuade the stuck battery out with some pressure. You should probably take all that stuff out anyway to clean the battery juice off.

If your going to wind up taking the entire light apart, why not throw the whole thing in a baking soda solution to neutralize the battery acid? This might break down the crud enough to get it all out as well. I wouldn't leave it in over night or anything like that, maybe a 1/2 to 1 hour is all. You don't want to create a new problem with rusting in addition to the battery acid.

If that's an ALKALINE "D" cell then a vinegar soak may counteract the corrosion, but it's a gamble. Send the light in to the battery mfg. for a free replacement instead.

Id just put the tale cap back on it and slam the tale into the ground to jar the battery loose/out. Remove the bulb first.

What brand battery is it? Some battery manufacturers have warranties for damaged products caused by their batteries. I believe Rayovac will reimburse you up to several thousand dollars!
