OK,

I'm not a light Guru but have an older SF-E2E that I want to update. It is 100% original. My plan is to switch to the Z57 tail cap and increase the lumens. I'll still use the original CR123a batteries.

I have posted a WTB in the Marketplace and have a new style Z57 located for $24. This will replace my older twisty tailcap. To increase my lumens I am planning to purchase a Lumens Factory HO-E2A - 110 lumens ($13) vs the original light (I think mn03).

So for $37 my old SF E2E will now be 110L vs 60L & have a new clicky tail switch.

Heres my question for those of you that have knowledge.... will that setup work? or will it melt the front glass or overpower the tail switch...

Also is there a brighter incandescent light for the CR123a batteries and new clicky tail or is that it?

That configuration will work just fine. Any particular reason to stay with primary cells rather than rechargeables ?

If (when) you make the - entirely understandable - jump to rechargeables, try the IMR-E2 with 2x IMR16340s (with the twisty switch) for ~500lm.

Other than that, you'd really need to switch to D26 modules.

Oh, and welcome to CPF.

I am currently using the EO-E2r in my E2d, and i love it, if i were you id step up to it. (150 lumens)

Im using the battery station RCR123a's from lighthound, theyre 900mAh at 3.6v each. Excellent runtime! As you were saying about the lumen output, honestly youre not going to notice that much of a difference, the factory E2e bulb has about the same output of around 100 lumens, the 60 is just an average at different charge intervals.

Never the less, you should enjoy it, a lot cheaper than buying those overpriced surefire batteries :sick2:

OK,

So if I consider using a rechargable battery with the E2E it also has to be compatable with a Fenix TK11-R2...... the internal diameter of the E2E is a perfect fit for the CR123a but the TK11-R2 is just a bit wider.

What is the best choice for the rechargable that is universal between the two lights?

Another +1 for the E0-E2R. I have several older SF-E2e's (flat sided). I am currently running a E0-E2R in one of them with either AW's or Battery Station RCR123's in it. They should fit in your E2e with no problem. Also don't get rid of your Z-52 twisty tail cap. It will come in very handy if you decide to run the IMR set-up.

Best Regards:
Bob

I do appreciate all the help!

OK, so if I go with a EO-E2R (150L) and rechargeables I cant use the z57 right? or it will melt a small spring in the tail cap?

If that is correct, is there a clicky tail cap that I can use? as I dont want the twisty tail cap?

thx

Yes the z57 will work just fine, the EO-E2r isn't using nearly enough amps to melt it.

The thread you posted are IMR cells, i dont know if you know the difference or not, but IMR's have a much lower internal resistance than regular RCR123's do, they will work with the E2r but if it was me i'd go with a safer battery , such as AW's protected 123 or the battery station batteries from lighthound i was telling you about, they have always gave me excellent performance and would recommend them.

I leave my E2d with this setup in my center console all the time, using it periodically, and i rarely ever have to charge it, maybe once every couple months, i love it, one of my favorite pocket lights. :grin2:

mrartillery,

My plan is the EO-E2R, Z57 and either of these batteries:

http://www.lighthound.com/Battery-Station-RCR123a-900mAh-Protected-Rechargeable-Battery_p_123.html

http://www.lighthound.com/AW-RCR123a-Protected-750-mAh-Battery_p_114.html

I have read about the performance & seen the graphs on these and they seem close to the same despite the 750 vs 900 so who really cares which you get I guess. This is the charger that I am looking at:

http://www.lighthound.com/Ultrafire-36-volt-or-3-volt-RCR123-Lithium-Battery-Charger_p_2270.html

I think that should all work out OK unless there is something that I have missed??????

Hans

PS - what is the CPF discount code at lighthound?

Either of those choices of batteries should be just fine, i dont think youll go wrong whichever you decide.

As for the charger, yes, thats the same charger i use, i have a couple of the ultrafire chargers, they work great.

And as for the discount code, you just said it, lol. Its "CPF" :D
