I am using a pair of DDM Tuning 55w Slim Ballast H3 HID kits, one 6000K and one 5000K (bought at separate times, forgot which color I already had on hand when I ordered the second :o ) in a pair of KC Daylighter spotlights. I am using the wiring harness included with the KC lights, which has a relay in it, I believe it's around 20 amps. All was working well.. UNTIL I got the bright idea to clean up the install and move the ballasts to a RadioShack Project box that is on the passenger fender flare. The wire running between the drivers side light and the ballast is around 4 feet.

The problem is that the drivers side light does not ignite. All I hear is a BUZZ from the ballast quickly, then silence. It does eventually ignite if I keep flipping the lights on and off, and is just as bright, but why does it do this? Is it because I have extended the wire between the HID and ballast? Could the wiring be creating too much resistance? Swapping the ballasts yielded no change in results.

Is there a way to resolve this issue? I would like to keep the ballasts protected inside of the comfort of the project box- it keeps everything clean. Ideas? Do I need to buy high voltage wire (where can I get it if so)?

"HID kits" in halogen-bulb headlamps or fog/auxiliary lamps (any kit, any lamp, any vehicle no matter whether it's a car, truck, motorcycle, etc.) do not work safely or effectively, which is why they are illegal -- and also why they are not built to any kind of a technical performance or durability stnadard. See here. It's not clear how you are using these lamps, but if they are used on a roadgoing vehicle the one and only acceptable solution is to get the "HID kit" out of the truck and into the trash can -- even if you are using these lamps only with the high beams when you don't see any other traffic around.

FWIW, we could get into countless hours of discussion

[Factually inaccurate advocacy of illegal and unsafe lighting modifications deleted]

The lighting modifications and products you're asking about and recommending are illegal. Rule 11 of this board prohibits advocating illegal activity. This thread is now closed.
