Hello everybody,
Im trying to make a Hid flashlight or spotlight...
I need a nice rounded beam with not much glare or flooding light arround that.
I have tried allot of things but it all goes to failure because it becomes a damn floodlight.
I tried car sportlights, hallogen projectors and working lamps...
So my question, what would be the best source to build my 55W hid in ?
Would that be a flashlight, carlight or other things ?
Because after all this failure i dont understand it anymore
It needs to have a reflector, but what reflector would be the best then ? Parabolic or other

Parabolic is best for hid unless you want to go aspherical (lensed) which would give you best throw without any spill, but is more complicated.... Otherwise you'd need to delve into short arc xenon which is pricy.

I picked up a old nighthunter and modded it with 70 watt HID and lipo battery. The nickle electroform reflecter is very high quality. perfect for spot.. Here is mine...

Gererally speaking, the HID lamp means High Voltage Sodium Lamps or High Voltage Mercury Lamp. If you want do HID lamp, the best light source is sodium lamp or mercury lamp. Because this kind of light source have many advantages, like high luminous flux, better stability, high life which can reach 20K to 30K hours or more higher. So, you can take use some automotive headlamp, street lamp etc. Hope these information can help you.
