Took some of my torches into work the other day...being non-flashaholics (they do use MiniMags daily though) they at first balked when I was talking about prices. "They like their MiniMags"...Yesterday one of them told me he had ordered two Inova X5Ts from Brightguy (which I had suggested for variety). Today, I took some more in, we held up one of their worn MiniMags with terribly scratched lens and compared it to an InReTech 2AA. One of the coworkers laughed and said "Is it on?" (ref the MiniMag)...they almost immediately ordered over $200 worth of InReTech 2AA drop-ins/MiniMags...sort of felt good having "planted the seed" and watching it grow!

Soooo....I'm sitting at the supper table relating the above post about the "new flashaholics" at work and my 16 year old son says, "Dad, since you've shown us and started buying these new flashlights for us...now when we turn on one of the older MiniMags, it's like 'This sucks'!" "Is it on?" ROTFLMAO!!!!! That comment has to take the grand prize! Well, at least the good thing is they are going for something more modern and longer lasting (on lithium AAs). Hey, they certainly know high quality when they see it.

The CPF bug bit them REAL hard: X5Ts and inretech adapters!

Had some non-flashaholic, but gadget-loving guests over not so long ago for dinner.

Somehow, we ended up outside and one of my adult guests was fumbling to turn on a Surefire 9AN. Well, my 3.5 year old daughter (well-familiar with all my non-firearm/edged toys) insists on helping, and proceeds to show the guests how to turn the 9AN by twisting the tailcap. She caps it off with, "don't shine it in anybody's eyes, ok?".

Makes a daddy proud. And needless to say, we had some new converts that night.

Sheesh. Show 'em a 9AN and you'll convert anyone who's just looking for a "flashlight"... To them, you probably showed them a helicopter searchlight or something...

My work colleagues get that "there he goes again" look whenever I bring in a new light, and of course there are the knowing glances, the winks, the good natured tolerance, etc.

But on several occasions since 9/11 a few colleagues have sought me out "privately" to recommend a light, usually "for a friend".

I guess it's that way with any somewhat esoteric hobby. The committed walk among the Philistines who only occasionally see the light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
