Hotel in Downtown L.A.?

My son is graduating from USC in May, and we are of course going out for the great occasion. The Radisson across the street is about the only hotel close to campus, and of course it sold out for graduation long ago. So, that probably leaves downtown L.A., which isn't too far.



All the downtown hotels suggested by the USC travel agency are ~$225-$275/night, which is pretty rich for my blood (and we'll be there several nights). Can anyone suggest a decent hotel in that area that is a bit more reasonably priced?
