how are the xml leds doing?

Reason I am asking this question is that a few months ago when four sevens had a nw version I purchased one... but I was very disapointed with the nw xml. Why? Well there was alot of color seperation between the hot spot and the spill. The hot spot was warmish yellow and the spill was a nasty cold cool white. It made it very hard to distinguish colors, so I was wondering if the xmls still have this issue in either the first or second gen xml leds?

That's XML's for you. But I believe certain tints do better, such as T5 3C. Others with more experience can clarify.

XM-Ls generally have a yellower tint band towards the outer angles of output. Usually in a reflector it means the yellower portions will be put into the hotspot and the spill will be more blue.

The color rings are an artifact, a combination of factors like the large die area, led dome, and smooth reflectors combine to make it quite noticable. The biggest factors are probably the LED dome size relative to the die and the reflector/optic, so the XML itself probably hasn't gotten any better, it all boils down to how well the optic/reflector works with the LED.
