How does this circuit work??

Please can someone kindly explain how the circuit in the image below works?
I need to rebuild one if possible but for a P7 led..
Battery config is 4 AA = 6volts

How does the led stay on? The switch (magnetic reed switch) is spring loaded so you push it to turn it on and it returns to the original position. Then repeat to turn the led off.
