How many 1/3 AA nimh batteries?

Yes, it SHOULD be about 9, but my guess will be about 8 since VERY few batteries are the dimensions they say. Depends on your source too, a 1/3 AA from some could be a couple mm shorter than a 1/3AA from someone else. I am guessing you probably want 7 or 8 (do I see a 5 watt mod in the future of this 3AA brinkmann (yep, just guessing, but I bet so)).

Yeah - Your best bet would be to check out the specs. AA's are 50MM long. I got 3 2/3AA NiMH made by Vinnic. They're flat-top cells, and even after adding a solder blob to the top of each cell, the 3 together are still a bit shorter than 2 AAs (even though the sizing says they're the same length)

One site quotes 16.7mm for 1/3AA. That means that 3AA (150mm) is a wee bit smaller than 9 of those (150.3mm). Spring slack ought to let you get away with that.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Actually, from the replies here, perhaps 1/2 AA would work better. I tried 5 N cells in a Brinkmann 3AA flashlight, and they didn't cut the mustard. So, I'm looking at rechargables, and should have 6 for 7.2 volts, or more with a little resistance.

I don't really know anything about these irregular sized batteries. Anyway, I have the 3AA brinkmann 3AA waiting for the correct rechargable battery configuration.

From what I know, 750 ma of current draw won't cut it for those 1/3 AA cells, 1/2 AA cells would be struggling to provide that current, that means you prolly need at least 7-8 1/2 AA cells. Which also means you most prolly won't fit it into the 3AA Brinkmann. According to here.... http://www.powerstream.com/NiB.htm, NiCds 1/3 AA would only have a capacity of 180 mah. Trying to draw 750 is like 4 times of it's capacity, it's like putting a 2.8 amps current draw on a 700 mah AA battery (Nicd). Which also means.... it won't be a problem like a thought it would be. Your only problem would be run time. It's going to be pathetic, at best, period. You should be happy if you can get 10 mins of bright run time from these 1/3 AAs... real happy.. for a look at size comparism, http://www.batterystation.com/nicads.htm, you can see the 1/3 As where are hmm... fatter... and if you look back at powerstream's site, you will notice that 1/3 As have a capacity of 240 mah. That makes a huge difference already. It's a current draw of 3 times it's own capcity which essentially means less voltage drop which means brighter for a longer period (longer than calculations by a bit) which means around 10 mins of Super Brite, followed by 10 mins of super fast diminishing brightness...

Why not just go the 3 Sub C way?
