How many spare batteries do you keep?

I was wondering how many spares and of what type you guys and gals keep on hand. More specifically how many batteries per light, rechargeables and primaries. I have:

16340/123A
4 rechargable cells, ~25 primaries.

AAA
4 rechagrables cells, no primaries.

So, 4 sets of rechargeables for my 16340x1 light and 2 sets of rechargeables for my AAx2 light.

With the increasing efficiencies of LEDs, how many primary cells are enough with a good supply of rechargeables?

So what is your philosophy on battery supply?
 
Spare cells

AAA/10440
~24 primaries, 4 NiMH and 2 Lithium rechargables

AA/14500
~ 12 primaries, 6 rechargable NiMH and 6 Lithium

123A/16340
2 primaries and 6 rechargables

CR2
1 primary and 2 rechargables

18650
4 rechargables

Ideally I'd like to be able have a fresh pair ready to go and be able to put the low ones right on the charger

Well zero primaries are enough if you have an adequate number of rechargeables to serve your peak needs, and a way to recharge them if the power goes out for longer than your supply will last.

It all depends. What kind of disaster did you have in mind?

Oh, and I don't have any "spare" cells -- just cells that I'm not using right this second. ;)

I set some cells aside as dedicated spares for particular devices (Wii remotes, Brother P-Touch lebeller) while others are just spares for any device.

Since I have almost eliminated alkalines cells from our household, I need to keep more rechargeable around "just in case".

AA:
8 Duraloop, 16 Eneloop, 4 Rayovac Hybrid, 2 Rayovac 4.0, 4 Rayovac Platinum, 30 Energizer L91 lithium

AAA:
13 Duraloop, 6 Eneloop, 4 Rayovac Hybrid

C:
2 Rayovac Hybrid

D:
2 Rayovac Hybrid, 8 Rayovac Alkaline

9V:
2 Rayovac Alkaline

2016:
4 Energizer

2032:
1 Energizer

CR123A (I use these as backups for 17670 and 18650 lights):
2 Duracell, 10 Streamlight, 8 Battery Station

17670:
0 (May need to order a spare, but CR123A will do)

18650:
I actually ran out of 18650 cells and need to order some more
 
I have 15 each of energizer AAA's and AA's. 4 each of AAA and AA eneloops. I have 90 CR123a's, and 1 RCR123a. two 17670's, two 18650's, and a dozen or so other size batteries.

  • At this very minute, eight. Four are in the fridge with a voltage reading of 4.05v each and another four fully charged in the house.
  • I've got four IMR-18650s on their way, along with another two 18650s. The IMRs will be used in two lights which would mean that, after taking into account my existing eight spares and the other two 18650s on their way, the final total should come ot thirteen spare 18650s and one IMR-18650.

  • Four pack of eneloops in each car (8)
  • Four pack of duracells in one car
  • Seven eneloops in the house
  • Around 15 Duracells in the house

AAA
  • Four pack of eneloops in one car
  • One eneloop in the house
  • Maybe two or three Duracells/miscellaneous brands in the house

IMHO, a QUICK read of this thread tells me NOTHING relative to the original question. :shrug:

I *EXPECTED* to see (per cell):
  • I NEED: XX cells (to populate *ALL* of my devices)
    I HAVE: YY spares
(or at least that how *I* would have responded to this question)

While I do have a few spares, I usually don't keep spares around. I do have a lot of flashlights. My idea is that if spare cells are needed I can take them from the flashlights that are not in use.

Keep in mind that this refers to rechargeable cells. I do have a fair amount of primary cells. The idea with rechargeable cells is that either you use them or they turn to crap.

I keep about a dozen each of D, C, and 9V, and have about 2 dozen AA and AAA alkaline cells. I have many lights that run on CR123 cells, so I keep a little over 200 of those around.

Crap cells get recycled, unless there is specific testing going on with them.

At the moment. I think I have on hand:

AAA: 8 rechargeables (Eneloops)
AA: 12 rechargeables (Eneloops); 2 primaries (L91s)
14500: no spares, just the one in my Jet 1
CR2: i primary
CR123: 40 primaries (!)
16340: no spares, just the two in my IncenDio and an E1e.

I actually need more AAAs and AAs, since they get used in many gadgets in addition to my lights. The only AA light I regularly use now is the Jet, and that's running a 14500.

I should also get another couple of 14500s and RCRs, and a few CR2s. The E1es uss RCRs or primaries, depending on the lamp I'm using. The IncenDio eats RCRs, since the output on primaries is underwhelmeing.

I really don't think I need any more 123s! I have two or three 123 lights that I carry around and use lightly, so my stock of primaries will last me for years.
